From glitz and glamour to grit.
Carrie Underwood has revealed that her home life on a Tennessee farm can be both âfrustratingâ and âexcitingâ after taking a step back from the Hollywood spotlight to focus on her family.
âMy goal is to just do as much as I can myself,â she told Us Weekly during a break from âAmerican Idolâ on Monday. âI love it. Itâs a challenge, and itâs frustrating, and itâs exciting, and itâs rewarding, and just all the things.â
The âBefore He Cheatsâ singer, 43, went on to describe her life on the farm as the âpolar oppositeâ of her life as an âAmerican Idolâ judge and country music superstar.
âI go home, and I had to have talks with my family at one point, because I was like, âOK, when Iâm away, Iâm like, Cinderella at the ball.â Iâm a princess, and itâs great,â Underwood explained.
âAnd then I come home, and Iâm like, covered in dirt. Iâm covered in poop. Itâs just the polar opposite,â she continued. âIâm like, cleaning up after everybody and barefoot in the kitchen. But I wouldnât have it any other way.â
Underwood moved to her 400-acre farm just outside Nashville with her retired NHL star husband, Mike Fisher, and their two sons, Isaiah, 11, and Jacob, 7, in 2019.
Although the âBlown Awayâ singer still travels to Los Angeles to film âAmerican Idol,â she has taken a break from touring.
The eight-time Grammy winner opened up about her decision to raise her family on a Tennessee farm rather than in Hollywood or on the road further during an episode of SiriusXMâs âFront Rowâ last month.
âI went from living on a farm to being on stage in front of a ton of people and traveling and weâre in a different city every day,â she explained. âI learned very quickly that this is not real life.â
While she acknowledged that âsinging is definitely one of [her] happy places,â Underwood also recognized that âthe world that takes you to is just not real.â
âThis entertainment world that we live in is not reality,â she added. âReality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking, and thatâs a world I love.â
But it isnât just Underwood and her family on the farm, because they also raise livestock on the 400-acre property.
âYou know, I love our chickens,â the âCowboy Casanovaâ singer told Fox News Digital last week. âWe have cows, we have sheep, we have donkeys. We have horses.â
She added, âI have my garden, and itâs a great way to connect with the earth. Thatâs my contribution to the family.â
Page Six has reached out to Underwoodâs reps for further comment.
The âJesus, Take the Wheelâ singer first shot to fame after winning Season 4 of âAmerican Idolâ in 2005.
She later met Fisher, 45, backstage at one of her concerts in 2008, and the pair tied the knot two years later.
Before moving to the $15 million, 400-acre farm in Franklin in 2019, the couple and their sons lived in a 7,083-square-foot, four-bedroom mansion in Brentwood.
