Anya Taylor-Joy said being married to her husband, Malcolm McRae, makes her more fearless.
The actress, 30, gave rare comments about her musician husband â whom she married in April 2022 â in an interview with Elle UK published Tuesday.
âI donât want to sound smug, but I love him so much,â she gushed. âTo have a best friend who goes through life with you â it has given me a sense of security that I didnât really ever dream about.â
âIt wasnât something that was on my list,â she continued. âNow that I have it, I just feel emboldened to take more risks because I know Iâve got something really nutritive and solid and healthy and so fâking fun.â
She added, âI laugh, like, 90% of the time.â
As for how the two stay connected despite their busy schedules, the âQueenâs Gambitâ star said they check in with each other every morning â though itâs not always easy.
âMalcâs got a dumb phone,â she said. âAnd Iâve kind of been offline for a while.â
Taylor-Joy noted that consciously stepping back from social media has been positive for her mental health.
âI do sometimes feel like I donât know whatâs going on, but I think itâs so nice to be fully present,â she shared of the trade-off.
Taylor-Joy and McRae, 32, started dating in 2021 after meeting at a music studio. They eloped in New Orleans on April Foolsâ Day in 2022.
The actress and the musician â whoâs a member of the band More* â tied the knot in an intimate courthouse wedding before she jetted off to Australia to film âFuriosa: A Mad Max Saga,â Page Six exclusively reported at the time.
The glam couple later said âI doâ for the second time during a star-studded wedding in Venice, Italy, in October 2023. They got married at the historic Palazzo Pisani Moretta, a 15th-century palace, on the Grand Canal.
The VIP guest list included Cara Delevingne, Julia Garner, and Nicolas Hoult, as well as Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh.
The âEmmaâ actress explained why they secretly married before having a larger ceremony in her interview with Elle published in May 2024.
âWeâre just real romantics,â she said, also sharing that she was âcompletely and utterly in love.â
âWe were born on the same day. And we wanted to make sure that our first experience was something that was completely for us. So we eloped in New Orleans with our two best friends and had the time of our lives.â
She added, âIt was magical. But Iâm lucky to say that the second experience â with all of our families âwas so beyond beautiful, and I just feel very, very lucky.â
