Thelma & Louise star, 70, hasn’t aged a day in new radiant photo

Geena Davis has left fans doing a double take after sharing a radiant new Instagram photo that proves she’s as effortlessly elegant as ever.

The Thelma & Louise star, 70, looked glowing as she enjoyed an ice cream while strolling through a picturesque town, wearing a romantic floral dress complete with delicate lace trim and a straw boater hat. Smiling as she looked off into the distance, Geena appeared relaxed and carefree, with many fans commenting that the Hollywood icon looked as youthful as ever.

The stunning snap comes as the Academy Award winner revealed she has never been more confident about getting older.

“I think it’s fabulous,” Geena told Yahoo. “I’ve liked myself better every year. I even think I look better every year! I don’t know if that will switch at some point. Maybe not. But it’s fun. You don’t worry about age anymore.”

Her refreshing outlook mirrors her latest role in Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi drama The Boroughs, in which she plays Renee, a glamorous and self-assured resident of a seemingly idyllic retirement community that harbours a dark secret.

“She’s older, you know, but hasn’t changed clearly,” Geena said of her character. “She’s still thriving and living the good life… She likes to say she doesn’t really belong in this retirement community because she knows she’s all that.”

One of the things that drew Geena to the series was its refusal to sideline older women. Her character embarks on a romance with a man played by Carlos Miranda, who is around three decades younger, a pairing that remains uncommon on screen.

“Oh, he’s a dream,” Geena said with a laugh. “He’s such a wonderful person. And we had so much fun together. He’s really cute.

“To be sexual like that when you’re my age – how often does that come along? I’m with a much younger guy. So that was fun.”

While she welcomes stories that challenge outdated stereotypes, Geena isn’t convinced one project alone can transform Hollywood.

“I don’t have faith in things onscreen starting a trend,” she admitted.

The actress has also found herself enjoying an unexpected resurgence with younger audiences.

Her surprise appearance alongside Sabrina Carpenter at Coachella earlier this year quickly went viral, introducing Geena to a whole new generation of fans. “It was incredible,” she said. “And it came up so suddenly. Sabrina’s a darling woman. She’s incredible. I loved her.” She added: “I was like, I’m trending? That’s crazy.”

Many younger fans also recognise her from Grey’s Anatomy, where she played Dr Nicole Herman. “A lot of teenagers say, ‘Are you Dr. Herman?'” she revealed.

More than three decades after Thelma & Louise became a cultural phenomenon, Geena is still amazed by the film’s enduring popularity.

Whenever another anniversary rolls around, she and co-star Susan Sarandon find themselves celebrating once again. “And we’re like, this is just living on,” she said. “Nobody realised at that time that movies were going to have this long life! So it’s kind of fabulous that people are still watching the movies for the first time.”

Through her work with the Geena Davis Institute, the actress has spent years campaigning for better representation of women on screen.

Although she’s encouraged by the progress made in children’s entertainment, she believes Hollywood still has a long way to go when it comes to stories centred on women over 50. “For women over 50 being represented, we have a long way to go,” she said.

That’s why The Boroughs felt so special. “The fact that this show is about older characters – that there’s six main characters who are sort of around their 70s – is fantastic. “That’s the point. We get to be heroic and brave and all those things that you would presume a younger character would be.”
