Savannah Guthrie wasn’t sitting in her usual spot on the Today desk on Friday June 5; co-star Craig Melvin was instead joined by another familiar face.
Craig started the show by telling viewers: “Thank you so much for starting your Friday – starting your weekend with us.” He then turned to Savannah’s seat, where Weekend Today host Laura Jarrett was sitting.
“Laura Jarrett in for Savannah whose getting a head start on her weekend,” he said.
Laura is a regular sub on the main Today, and has a close relationship with her anchors. The 42-year-old looked stylish wearing a bright red sleeveless shirt dress, and told Craig she was excited for Lizzo’s performance on the show later that morning.
Savannah returned to Today on Monday April 6, after taking extended leave to be with her family following the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.
Nancy, 84, was last seen on January 31 after being dropped off at her home after having dinner and a family game night. She was reported missing the following day after failing to show up at a friend’s house to watch a church service online.
The case continues to remain active, with Nancy’s disappearance reaching 100 days on May 11. On day 100, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told local station KOLD-TV: “I believe, at some point in time, we will make an arrest on this case. We’re not going to give up on it just because it’s been 100 days.”
Savannah recently marked her first Mother’s Day since her beloved mom went missing on May 10. The TV host shared several clips capturing moments with her mom and other family members.
Alongside it, she wrote: “Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie – we miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.”
Savannah continued: “We need help. Someone knows something that can make the difference. Call 1800CALLFBI. You can be anonymous and the reward remains available,” concluding with: “Please keep praying. Bring her home.”
Her husband, Michael Feldman, posted his own poignant tribute to his wife, including a photo of her with their kids. “To the strongest person I know. Surrounding you with love on Mother’s Day,” he wrote.
