The Princess of Wales and her daughter Princess Charlotte recreated an iconic Wimbledon moment when they were courtside in 2024, mimicking the actions of Princess Diana and Prince William, who stood in the same royal box 33 years prior.
Princess Kate stunned in a beautiful purple dress while her daughter wore a navy polka-dot dress, and the pair took to their feet to applaud the tennis players. An uncanny photograph from 1991 shows Princess Diana in a purple blazer and her young son William in an adorable navy blazer, both standing and clapping together in the same manner. Proving that these annual Wimbledon appearances are building core family memories as well as part of the royal familyâs history.Â
Princess Kate dodges the royal boxÂ
This year, when Princess Kate attended Wimbledon, she decided to dodge the Centre Court royal box, though. She surprised onlookers by rocking up at Court One to watch a match. Kate watched British sportswoman Katie Swan go head-to-head with Madison Keys from the US on Thursday last week, admiring the tennis alongside tennis champs Sir Andy Murray and Anne Keothavong. Sadly, the royal didnât bring the luck, as Katie was knocked out of the competition by Madison following a 6-1, 6-4 loss.
Princess Kateâs candid chats
As the trio watched the nail-biting match, they also found time to catch up about their private lives. Anne, who is a five-time British number one, recalled her time with the Princess when she spoke to reporters on Tuesday, and she revealed that they had a lot in common as they all have young children. âShe didnât stop chatting, it was brilliant. Andy was there as well, and we all have kids [who are of a] similar age, so a lot of the chat revolved around that, and tennis, and encouraging young kids to play and the challenges that we face as parents,â Anne said.
Elsewhere, the 44-year-old royal sat with Tim Henman and All England Lawn and Tennis Club Chair Debbie Jevans on Court 18 to watch Arthur Fery play Otto Virtanen. Chat turned to Kateâs recent Three Peaks Challenge, and she admitted the weather didnât play ball during her hikes. âThe weather was atrocious! I mean, everybody got soaked through, but it was a very stoically British thing to do.
âYou know, youâre soaking wet and everybodyâs going âCome on, you can do itâ,â she said.Â
