Pippa Middleton shares a special connection with her niece, Princess Charlotte, but we rarely get to see their bond in public.
The Princess of Wales Princess of Wales’s younger sister showed just how close she is with Charlotte, now 11, as they watched the Wimbledon tennis tournament together in 2024.
Charlotte was seen in a constant state of giggles as she spent time with her beloved aunt, offering a rare glimpse into their relationship.
At one point, Charlotte whispered in Pippa’s ear to tell her something, with Pippa responding with a smirk. They looked so in sync with matching sunglasses and even matched their hairstyles, opting for a half-up, half-down style.
It’s the only time we’ve seen them pictured next to one another in public, though they often attend the same royal family events. For example, Charlotte and her older brother Prince George were page boy and bridesmaid at Pippa’s wedding to James Matthews at St Mark’s Church in 2017.
Charlotte is actually Pippa’s middle name, so it’s possible that Prince William and Kate took inspiration from her when they named their daughter in 2015.
In addition, Princess Charlotte and Pippa’s daughter Grace both have Elizabeth as a middle name – a moniker passed on through the Middleton family via Carole and Kate, who also share the name.
Kate’s close relationship with Pippa
The Princess of Wales is known to be incredibly close to her younger sister, Pippa. Pippa, 42, has always been there to support the royal, even before she was maid of honour at her 2011 wedding.
The Middleton sisters, born just 21 months apart, grew up in Bucklebury, Berkshire and both attended boarding school, Marlborough College.
Kate and Pippa shared a love of sport, including hockey, tennis and athletics, which has followed them into adulthood.
After graduating from university, Kate and Pippa shared a £1.88million apartment in Chelsea, close to King’s Road. The Middleton sisters were often spotted on nights out together at popular hotspots, including Mahiki and Boujis.
In a rare interview with NBC in 2014, Pippa said: “Obviously she has pressures that she’s taken on and things. But we spend a lot of time together. We still do a lot together as a family. We have a very normal, sisterly relationship. We’re very close.”
Pippa herself has three children: Arthur, seven, Grace, five, and Rose, four. She lives with her husband James, in a Georgian mansion in Berkshire.
Middletons reunited
The Middleton family was reunited at Royal Ascot last week, as the Princess of Wales made a rare public appearance with her mother, Carole Middleton, and her sister-in-law, Alizee Thevenet.
Kate’s siblings, James and Pippa, did not appear to be present, though her father, Michael Middleton, attended the races later in the week.
Kate and Carole were pictured together in the royal box, with the Princess clasping her mother’s hand at one point.
Speaking of the Princess’s return to Ascot for the first time since 2023, HELLO!‘s Royal Editor Emily Nash said: “People were clearly delighted to see her again, and although there were three cheers for the King, there was palpable excitement about her entrance. When she appeared, a huge cheer went up from the crowd.”
