Prince William and Prince Harry’s distant cousin, Daisy Knatchbull, revealed she was engaged to her long-term partner, Italian music executive Giovanni Damiani and shared details of their very unique proposal.

The 33-year-old fashion designer and editor-in-chief posted her happy news to her social media channels and offered her followers a glimpse of her engagement ring.

Daisy snapped a selfie of herself and her new fiancé and lifted her left hand to show the camera her new piece of jewellery. The ring was uniquely shaped like a turtle and contained a milky stone instead of a diamond.

She explained the choice of bling in her Instagram caption and said: “Getting hitched (and making gift shop turtle rings a thing)”, adding ring and turtle emojis to emphasise her point.

While Daisy enjoyed her post-proposal bubble bliss, HELLO! asked the experts to examine the gold accessory and outline the intricate details of her new turtle engagement ring.

Swapping diamonds for gemstones

Traditionally asked with a diamond, for Daisy, her partner got down on one knee and popped the question with an oval gemstone, encased in a gold turtle-shaped band.

CEO and founder of Jessica Flinn Fine Jewellery, Jessica Flinn-Allen, exclusively told HELLO!: “Daisy’s unique engagement ring features an oval cabochon (polished, dome shape) cut gemstone, which is used as the ‘shell’ in this eclectic turtle ring design.”

She continued: “The band and turtle elements of the ring are gold coloured, which is definitely on trend at the moment, with yellow gold continuing to be popular for engagement rings and trumping white gold and platinum.

“The cloudy white, opalescent look of the stone indicates the stone to be either Opal or Moonstone, which is a unique choice for an engagement ring,” the expert added.

Jessica addressed Daisy’s caption and concluded: “Based on her caption on the engagement post, the ring came from a gift shop in the Bahamas where the proposal took place, which shows Daisy and her partner’s down-to-earth attitude when it comes to engagement rings.”

How much did it cost?

As the bride-to-be revealed in her caption, her engagement ring was bought from a gift shop, varying the price depending on the type of resort the couple had been staying at during the time of their proposal.

“If the ring is made in solid yellow gold, it will still only have set them back a figure in the £100s, but has supported a small local business and doesn’t make their engagement any less special for not spending thousands!” Jessica explained.

She surmised that the couple may go ring shopping together after their holiday and said: “I expect later down the line we may see another engagement ring being worn by Daisy that is more suitable for being worn daily, but you never know, she may keep up with the turtle theme for her wedding ring too!”
