Every year on 1 March, St David, the patron saint of Wales, is celebrated with a feast day – and the Prince and Princess of Wales have released a joint statement to mark the occasion. The message was posted on Sunday on their official Instagram account, with the couple captured at Frogmore House on the Windsor Home Park estate and talking in Welsh.

Once translated into English, Prince William said: “To everyone in Wales, a very Happy St David’s Day! It is a beautiful country, with a rich history and wonderful people.”

Meanwhile, Kate, 44, added: “Wales is very close to our hearts, and we look forward to every visit. Wishing you a day full of celebration with family and friends.”

The message followed the couple’s shared trip to Wales earlier this week. They were seen in Llanidloes and Newtown, the pair all smiles as they braved the rain to greet well-wishers, having visited Hafan Yr Afon, a hub for culture, community, and heritage, and the Hanging Gardens in Llanidloes.

The princess was also seen speaking with Creative Producer Kate Morgan-Clare, while visiting a project funded by the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award, focused on supporting the well-being of the children and young people in the local area at Oriel Davies, a public contemporary art gallery in Newton.

There was even time for light refreshments in a cafe which is part of the Oriel Davies gallery before heading back to their home in Windsor.

William and Kate’s gentle approach

At several points in the day, the princess displayed her maternal side as she interacted with a young child at Hafan Yr Afon, allowed seven-year-old Leman Wetti to tie a pearl necklace around her neck at an art workshop at Oriel Davies, and delighted a group of young boys by stopping for a selfie in the heart of Newtown.

However, it was William’s soft approach that endeared him to the group of children at the art workshop. In a touching interaction, which was captured on video, the youngster bashfully approached the royal to present him with her picture of a hand-drawn daffodil ahead of St David’s Day.

The moment, in which William dropped his volume and spoke sweetly to the young girl, aligns with body language expert and astrologer Inbaal Honigman’s previous insights into William’s parenting techniques, and how she told HELLO! that based on his star sign, the royal is “loving and caring”.

She revealed: “Prince William is a gentle Cancerian, which means he is loving and caring. Cancerians are family-minded, devoted and emotional. They enjoy simple pleasures such as eating dinner with their loved ones or holding hands. A Cancer is romantic and intuitive.”
