Prince Harry is said to be feeling “buoyed and energised” following his family reunion with his father King Charles last week.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, brought his wife, Meghan Markle, and two children to Highgrove in Gloucestershire last Friday for a rare family meet-up.
It was the first time Prince Archie, seven, and five-year-old Princess Lilibet had met their grandfather in person since 2022, when they visited the UK for the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
It was implied that he hopes the meeting could mark a fresh start, with the insider adding: “Every journey of a thousand miles begins with one footstep.”
The Sussexes’ reunion with King Charles
The meeting between Charles and the young Prince and Princess is a sign of the thawing of the relationship between the King and his son Harry.
The pair were estranged for some time, especially after Harry criticised his father, stepmother Camilla, brother the Prince of Wales and sister-in-law Kate in his Oprah interview, Netflix documentary, interviews and his autobiography Spare, after stepping down from the working monarchy six years ago.
His rift with William is ongoing and shows no sign of abating, and the family reunion took place during the same afternoon William was playing in a charity polo match at Windsor.
In February 2024, Harry made a transatlantic dash from his Californian home to Britain to see his father following his cancer diagnosis, which may have led to the first steps in a reconciliation between the pair.
Harry had planned to bring his family to the UK while he undertook a week-long series of events promoting charities and organisations close to his heart, including the Invictus Games he founded.
Security issues prevented Meghan and the children from travelling with him to London, but it appears concerns were mitigated to allow the visit to Highgrove to take place.
Archie and Lilibet’s excitement to return to the UK
Before returning to the UK, Archie and Lilibet were feeling “very excited” to meet the King, HELLO! exclusively revealed.
However, insiders said they “don’t have any concept” of who their royal relatives really are.
A friend of Harry and Meghan told us: “The truth is they don’t really have any concept about who they (the royal family) are, their parents are very good at keeping them away from it all so they live as normal little kids.”
Prince Harry is also said to be in “frequent” contact with his father, HELLO! understands.
