Cast your mind back to 2024. Prince George, along with his sister, Princess Charlotte and his dad, Prince William, posed for a photo with pop musician Taylor Swift, after attending the Eras Tour at Wembley.

Since then, it seems the future king has done an about-turn with his music tastes, with Princess Kate revealing her son’s aural preference during a visit to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester on Thursday.

The Princess of Wales spoke to members of the public in the music therapy room at the centre, revealing the school run is a battle each day due to the conflicting music tastes of her children.

Princess Charlotte has stayed strong as a devoted Swiftie, with our future queen explaining: ā€œCharlotte loves Taylor Swift,ā€ before shocking us all by adding: ā€œGeorge wants more rock. He loves AC/DC, he plays the guitar.ā€ As for Louis? Princess Kate said he’s an Alex Warren fan.

Prince George’s music taste

For a 12-year-old boy, AC/DC is an interesting choice. Formed back inĀ 1973 in Sydney, Australia, the band’s fan base is mainly comprised of older men – including his father, Prince William, who likely influenced George’s penchant for the rock band.

Back in 2021, Prince William said on Apple’s Time To Walk podcast: ā€œThere’s nothing better than, on a Monday morning, when you’re a bit bleary-eyed after the weekend and trying to get yourself back into the grind of the week, listening to AC/DC, Thunderstruck.ā€

While he loves the track now, the Prince of Wales said he wasn’t always a fan: ā€œI have to say the first time I put it on, and I’ve heard it a million times now, I was kind of, like, ā€˜Well, this is quite heavy for a Monday morning’. But now, when I listen to it, it’s the best tonic for a Monday morning. It absolutely wakes you up, puts your week in the best mood possible, and you feel like you can take on anything and anyone.ā€

He added: ā€œI’d imagine you’re going to walk quite fast listening to it, maybe with a skip in your step, with the headbanging. It’s a difficult song not to dance to or to nod along to.ā€ Indeed, your majesty.

AC/DC aside, Prince George also reportedly enjoys the strumming of fellow classic rock band Led Zeppelin.

In 2023, Caroline Mulvihill, a member of the Rock Choir, told PA of a conversation she’d had with Prince William: ā€œWe were talking about the kind of music we do in Rock Choir and Will was telling us in their household they have a very diverse music taste and George is very much into AC/DC and Led Zeppelin.ā€

Luckily for Prince George, AC/DC, who last released an album (their 17th!) in 2020, are currently on tour, so perhaps he’ll get the chance to catch them live. At present they’re only touring the US, but we’re sure he and Prince William could fly over, on this occasion…
