As the search for Savannah Guthrie’s missing mom Nancy Guthrie continues, a former detective has revealed a chilling theory behind why key details, including crucial 911 calls, have not yet been made public.
Retired detective Bob Gilliam believes the silence may not be accidental, but strategic. Speaking on The Interview Room, he suggested that investigators could be deliberately withholding the recordings to protect sensitive elements of an ongoing investigation.
“I don’t think we’re going to hear the 911 calls for a while and there could be a myriad of reasons for that,” he said. “There’s probably some investigative information in there that the detectives don’t want out to the public.”
His warning was stark. “Don’t hold your breath. I think it’s going to be quite a while before we hear anything like that.”
The comments come as the timeline surrounding Nancy’s disappearance continues to raise troubling questions.
The 84-year-old had spent the evening of January 31 with family, enjoying dinner at her daughter’s home. According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, drove her back to her house at around 9:45 p.m., waiting until she was safely inside before leaving.
What happened next remains a mystery. Investigators believe Nancy may have been taken from her home in the early hours of February 1, but no suspect has been publicly identified and no clear sequence of events has been confirmed.
Concern first grew when Nancy failed to attend her usual church service the following morning, something she reportedly watched via livestream from home. Friends raised the alarm, and her daughter Annie Guthrie, unable to reach her mother, went to the house herself.
When she discovered Nancy was missing, she called 911. Whether additional calls were made that night has not been disclosed, and it is precisely those unknown details that Bob believes could hold critical clues.
If the recordings contain information about voices, background sounds or specific timing, releasing them prematurely could compromise the investigation or alert potential suspects. For now, authorities remain tight-lipped, fuelling both speculation and concern as the days pass without answers.
Nancy’s whereabouts are still unknown, and investigators continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.
