Lizzo fired back at an internet troll who accused her of throwing shade at Taylor Swift.
The social media face-off began last Friday when an X user shared a clip of Lizzoâs music video for âSTFU,â a song from her 2025 mixtape, âMY FACE STILL HURTS FROM SMILING.â
âThe Life Of A Showgirl + MY FACE HURTS FROM SMILING â 4.005M đ. ICEMAN + MAID OF HONOUR + HABIBTI â 683k â°ď¸â°ď¸â°ď¸â°ď¸,â the X user captioned the post.
Confused by the caption, Lizzo re-shared the post and asked her followers, âCan someone explain what this means?â
An online hater replied to the singer by claiming that Lizzo had taken shots at Swift.
âIt means all that sât talking you did about Tay finally caught up to you,â the person wrote, a comment which has garnered over 2,000 likes.
Lizzo took note of the accusation and clapped back in a charged response Saturday.
âAre you well?â she asked before digging in.
âFirst of all I have never talked sât about Taylor Swift. Also while we on the subject Iâve never talked sât about any artist,â she continued. âJust because I mention an artist by name does not mean Iâm talking sâtâ grow tf up pls.â
Several people responded to Lizzo by claiming that she sided with Kanye West after the rapper released âFamous,â a song in which he referenced Swift with lyrics like âI made that bâh famous,â in 2016.
âYES YOU HAVE TALKED SHIT ABOUT TAYLOR STOP GASLIGHTING US ?? you literally sided with KANYE WEST in 2016 lets not-,â one person claimed in the comments section.
âNEVER??? let me refresh your memory a little. Iâm actually really glad your career is in ruins,â a second person wrote, along with an old video of Lizzo rapping along to Westâs diss track.
âYouâve been talking sât about her for years pls spare us the gaslighting,â another person wrote.
Others sided with Lizzo, however, and pointed out that the video doesnât prove that she was intentionally taking a swipe at Swift.
âI hate Kanye but her doing a song with him isnât talking sât about TS. may you be more elaborate please? genuinely asking,â one person wrote.
âShe did not. Singing a song doesnât make you that,â a supporter agreed.
âWas literally about to say you donât even talk sât about other artists like wtf are they on IM A HEAVY LIZZO DEFENDER UNTIL I DIE IDGAF,â another wrote.
Despite appearing to show love to Swiftâs nemesis a decade ago, Lizzo has made friendly comments about the pop star in recent years.
Lizzo, 38, warmly referred to herself as âthe black Taylor Swiftâ while discussing how she writes about dating in her lyrics during a 2022 appearance on âThe Breakfast Club.â
âI really am, Iâm trifling,â she continued. âI donât talk too badly about [an exâs] character, itâs just what he do. Iâll be like, âHeâs a good person, but this is what he did. Am I tripping?â Theyâd be like, âYouâre not tripping, youâre not tripping.â
That same year, she clapped back at West after he made comments about her body.
