Kate Hudson has opened the doors to her $6 million Pacific Palisades abode in a recent Instagram carousel. The actress took to social media on February 27 to share a series of photographs taken from her beach-view home.
In the caption, she penned: “Happiest at home in my @cafeappliances kitchen.”
Kate was raised by her parents, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, in the Pacific Palisades property, but the couple later sold it, only for their daughter to buy it back in 2005 and purchase the home next door in 2011, to make a sprawling estate.
“I was going to blow everything out. And then the fires happened. We lost so many old houses in the Palisades that I went: I’m not going to tear these walls down. So now, instead of doing this crazy remodel, I’m in the process of honoring the home as it was built,” Kate told Architectural Digest of her sanctuary.
“My very, very foundational memories were in that house, with my grandma, my grandpa, all of my mom’s aunts and uncles, Kurt – my pa’s – parents,” she added. “When I walked back into that house, I just had this overwhelming wave of nostalgia.”
Kate shares her home with her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa. While her eldest son, Ryder, is away at college, her two younger children, Bingham and Rani, continue to live at the family home.
Kate partnered with upscale appliance brand, Café, to design her chic kitchen. The countertops are clad in blue marble, set atop crisp white wood cabinetry adorned with gold hardware. Light wood flooring creates a striking contrast, while the breakfast bar is lined with upholstered stools.
“I want a blue and yellow kitchen. I want more primary colors without getting too distracting. I want it to feel like serene and modern. I don’t want it to feel cluttered. But I also want to be able to utilize more bright, fun colors than that sort of trended, muted greens and roses – I feel like creams and things that have been very popular for a while. I want more vibrancy,” said Kate of the space.
She continued: “You don’t really get to see it from the pictures, but it’s very indoor-outdoor. It opens completely up to the outside. My favorite thing is when the kids are running around and in and out of the kitchen and I’m cooking – I love to cook. I love the kitchen, it’s my favorite place in the world. I like when everybody’s sitting around, and having almost an early afternoon cook flow into an early dinner. I like it loud; I like football on. A loud, active kitchen is perfect to me.”
The property’s expansive backyard boasts a swimming pool and a mini jacuzzi, all framed by white wood fencing and a concrete stone patio. The exterior of the home is accented with stylish grey and white stripes.
Kate’s bathroom features a spacious tub with gold hardware, accompanied by a shelf adorned with family photographs, all overlooking a large window that frames the backyard.
