Josh Gad is dealing with something âtumultuous.â The 45-year-old Frozen star opened up about his mother Susan Gad Schwartzâs health and a recent and very âserious medical emergency.â
He wrote to his one million Instagram followers on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, saying: âThe last 12 days have been some of the hardest of my life.â He wrote about his heartbreak alongside photos of himself with friends, family, and doctors who are treating his mother in Florida.
Josh continued: âAs I pivot for a few days from caring son 2 present father, I just want to take a sec to thank some of the incredible people who have been and continue to be by Momâs side as she slowly gets better every day.â
The actor went on to name dozens of people taking care of Susan, from doctors to friends. Josh wrote: âThe most important people who have been helping 2 guide Mom out of the woods have been my INCREDIBLE family, led by my dad Stan Schwartz, my sister-in-law @stacygad (who is a force of nature), my brother @jason_ftl who literally saved my momâs life by bringing her to the ER two weeks ago and my brother Jeff.â
The Book of Mormon star added: âMom is still in the woods, but we can finally see the forest through the trees. This woman is our world and you have lifted us up during what have been the 2 most tumultuous weeks of our lives. Thank you. I am scared to leave momâs side even for a few days, but I know she is [in] incredible hands with this amazing support group.â
Joshâs update comes two weeks after he first shared his momâs health scare on social media. On March 11, 2026, he announced that he was cancelling his appearance at Disneyland Parisâ Frozen themed section because of his momâs hospitalization.
Since that day, Josh has continued to share updates and pleas for prayers to his community. On March 14, he shared a photo of Susan to Instagram, writing: âThis is my mom. She gave me life. Right now she and us are fighting for hers. This is Susan Gad. My hero. My rock. My world. If you can, please send her all your good thoughts and prayers. She needs them (and deserves them).â
