“Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care.”

It then detailed how the family’s financial situation has been significantly impacted by paying for James’ medical care, and that now the family are “working hard to stay in their home” and “maintain some stability”.

“In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds. They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time.

“The support of friends, family, and the wider community will make a world of difference as they navigate the road ahead.”

The post ended with the message: “Your generosity will help cover essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the children’s education. Every donation, no matter the size, will help Kimberly and her family find hope and security as they rebuild their lives. Thank you for considering a gift to support them.”

Generous family members, friends and fans started donating to the page shortly after it was created, with currently $106,000 raised. Famous people who have donated so far include Derek Hough and Julie Plec.

The family are hoping to raise $500,000. James and Kimberly got married in 2010 and share children Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah.

In November 2024, James spoke about his cancer battle for the first time, telling People: “I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family.”

He later wrote about it on social media. “Apologies to all the people in my life who I’d planned on telling myself,” he began.

“Nothing about this process has occurred on my preferred timeline…But we roll with it, taking each surprise as a signpost, pointing us toward a greater destiny than we would have discovered without divine intervention. Please know that my family and I deeply appreciate all the love and support.”
