Jennifer Lopez held back tears as she gave an update concerning her twins, Max and Oskar – formerly known as Emme, 18. The Office Romance actress discussed her looming empty nester status during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

After host Kelly Clarkson asked Jennifer, 56, how she was dealing with her twins’ high school graduation. “It’s hard, it’s a hard and emotional time,” the mom said as she held back tears, adding: “It’s a lot of mixed feelings.”

“You want them to get out there and have a great time,” Jennifer continued. “They’re waiting to start their lives.”

Max and Oskar, who graduated high school in May, decided to go in different directions and attend separate colleges. Oskar is headed to Sarah Lawrence College in New York, and while Max hasn’t revealed his college choice, his mom is full of emotion about his next chapter.

“I remember how exciting that time [in my life] was for me,” Jennifer shared. “But I also feel like they’re leaving home in a couple of months and won’t be back. [It just feels like] the house falling on your chest.”

Jennifer’s love for her twins

Jennifer can’t wait to be a part of Max and Oskar’s journey to college. During a May appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the “Let’s Get Loud” singer explained that she “absolutely” plans to move them into their dorm rooms, regardless of whether her appearance causes a commotion.

“We’re going to pack up their rooms here, and they’re going to take all the things that they want to take to their dorm,” she explained.

“Then they’re going to realize that their dorms are too small. They’re going to miss home. I hope they want to come back real soon,” she added.

What will Jennifer do as an empty nester?

While the actress is emotional about her kid’s future, she is excited for her own. The star has previously opened up about her kids flying the nest. “I feel really good about it,” she told Entertainment Tonight earlier this year. “I’m like, [I] can’t believe that we’ve gotten here, you know, just the three of us. It’s, you know, been a journey for all three of us through this life [because] I was a single mom since they were three years old.”

Jennifer shared that she is looking forward to what the third part of her life is going to look like. “What is my life going to be?” she asked herself on The Kelly Clarkson Show, adding: “Free!”

She’s experiencing a career renaissance. Jennifer stars in Netflix’s newest romantic-comedy, Office Romance, alongside Brett Goldstein, Betty Gilpin, and Tony Hale. Plus, her 2011 song “On The Floor” is experiencing a major resurgence after it was featured in Amazon Prime Video’s Off Campus.

“It’s crazy what can happen,” Jennifer said of the song’s comeback.
