Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour are reuniting for a very special reason. Just months after Stranger Things came to an end, the former co-stars have signed on to play father and daughter once again in a new Netflix spy drama from A24.
The untitled series will see Millie, 22, and David, 51, step away from the supernatural world of Hawkins and into a far more high-stakes thriller. Written by Adolescence creator Jack Thorne, the show follows disgraced FBI agent turned security expert Matt Wolfe, played by David, who is forced back into the field after his estranged daughter Rebecca vanishes during a mission.
Millie will play Rebecca, an FBI agent determined to follow in her fatherâs footsteps â despite their fractured relationship. The pair will also executive produce the series, alongside Millieâs husband Jake Bongiovi and her father Robert Brown.
It is a fitting next step for the actors, who spent 10 years playing one of televisionâs most beloved father-daughter duos. David starred as police chief Jim Hopper, while Millie played Eleven, the telekinetic teenager who gradually formed a powerful bond with him across Stranger Thingsâ five seasons.
Their on-screen relationship became one of the emotional anchors of the Netflix phenomenon, with Hopper eventually becoming a fiercely protective father figure to Eleven.
The new commission has attracted particular attention following reports last year that suggested there had been tension between the two during production on the final season of Stranger Things.
A complaint was reported by one outlet at the time, although the details were never independently confirmed publicly. Neither Millie nor David spoke at length about the claims initially, but David addressed the speculation in a recent interview with Variety.
âItâs a show that went on for 10 years,â he said, explaining that long working relationships can naturally involve âargumentsâ and âdisagreementsâ.
He described the situation as a âsimple rupture-and-repair thingâ, adding that once they spoke privately, âweâre fineâ.
David then made it clear that he and Millie remain close, teasing their future collaborations before the new Netflix project was announced.
âYouâll see more of me and Millie â 10 years wasnât enough,â he said. âThere is a special bond there. I love her. She loves me.â
Millie has also spoken warmly about David and their time working together, saying their relationship became increasingly collaborative as she grew from a child actor into an adult performer.
âDavid was there through all of it,â she said. âEven though the series has ended, thereâs still a lot of gratitude.â
While their new series will see them playing a more complicated father-daughter pairing than Hopper and Eleven, the casting is sure to delight Stranger Things fans. Netflixâs head of scripted series Jinny Howe said audiences will love watching the actors reunite as âestranged father and daughter on opposite sides of a crisisâ.
