Now that her son is 19 months old, Hailey Bieber is becoming more open about her pregnancy and childbirth experience. The Rhode founder appeared on the SHE MD with Mary Alice podcast and spoke candidly about being a first time mom.
The 29-year-old welcomed her son, Jack Blues Bieber, in August 2024 with her husband, Justin Bieber. Haileyās OB/GYN Dr. ThaĆÆs Aliabadi also spoke on the show and Hailey was quizzed over whether her pregnancy was planned or a surprise.Ā
āIt was a surprise,ā she revealed. āShe [Dr. ThaĆÆs Aliabadi] told me this was going to happen because she was likeā¦ā
āAnd I told her like, āDonāt get pregnant'ā added Dr. Aliabadi.
Hailey then opened up about a reproductive medical condition she was diagnosed with prior to her pregnancy. āYeah. So I had a septum in my uterus, and Dr. A kept saying, āWell, we need to look at this and keep an eye on it before you get pregnant because it could potentially be an issue,'ā she shared.
āāI donāt really know. Weāve got to see. I might have to give you a small surgery for it. Not sure.ā And I was like, āOkay. Well, Iām not thinking about getting pregnant right now, so weāll just cross that bridge when we get there.ā And then I magically got pregnant.ā
āAnd then she calls me, and sheās like, āIām pregnant!ā And Iām like, āNo!'ā recalled Dr. Alibadi. Haileyās OB/GYN then explained Haileyās condition and the risks it can cause in pregnancy. āSo uterine septum is genetic. Again, weāre born with it. So basically, imagine you have a normal-shaped uterus. But inside the cavity of the uterus, imagine this little wall that comes in, this thin wall that comes in,ā they shared.
āYou can have a mild, moderate or a severe septum. Basically we measure it on ultrasound. If itās less than 1 cm, itās mild. If itās 1 to 2 cm, itās moderate. Yours was moderate. It affects 1 to 3 percent of women, and with moderate, you have a higher risk of miscarriage with the pregnancy. And so the risk for her was about maybe 25 to 40 percent risk of miscarriage. And a 10 to 20 percent risk of preterm delivery.ā
Hailey then admitted that being aware of the potential risk of miscarriage was particularly daunting. āWhich I think was our bigger scare. Because we realized as the baby was growing, the septum it was, you know, expanding. Everything was opening and doing what it needed to do, luckily,ā she added.
āAnd Iāll never forget, as I was telling her, āWell, these are the risks.ā And she looked at me, sheās like, āYou know what? I believe that everythingās gonna work out fine.ā Remember this? And I looked at her, and Iām like, āI think so too,'ā added Dr. Alibadi.
