Goldie Hawn revealed that she and her partner Kurt Russell are against getting married for a surprising reason. The couple, who have been together for 43 years, have repeatedly been asked throughout their relationship why they have not yet tied the knot.
âWe thought that by getting married that was actually going to take something from both of us that we didnât want,â Goldie told Entertainment Tonight in a new interview, adding, âWe want to choose each other every day.â
She continued: âI donât like ownership, you know? And I must say that I think Kurt feels the same way. I think thatâs one of the areas where we all have to feel free to be who we are, and think the way we do, and for those of us who are, basically, want to have a happy life, I think you want to be happy with yourself.â
Nevertheless, Goldie gushed over her partner, calling him âkind,â âfunny,â and âromanticâ during the red carpet interview.Â
Goldie was previously married to Bill Hudson from 1976 to 1982, during which they welcomed two children, daughter Kate and son Oliver Hudson. Goldie and Kurt first met on the set of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band in 1966. However, their relationship only took a romantic turn 15 years later when they co-starred in Swing Shift. Â They went on to welcome one son, Wyatt Russell.
Goldie Hawnâs comments on marriage
This isnât the first time the actress has publicly addressed her thoughts on marriage. âI have a relationship with birds,â she said. âIâm a bird. And you leave the cage door open, I may never fly out. But if you close that door, for my freedom and my independence, I would probably take all my feathers off,â she shared during a chat on The Dan Buettner Podcast.
âItâs a freedom of basically not melding into somebody else, when youâre copacetic on certain areas and you have freedom,â Goldie added of her relationship with Kurt.
âEven if we did get married, it wouldnât make any difference because itâs 42 years now,â she shared. In response to why she continues to choose Kurt, Goldie said: âBecause I have respect for him because I think heâs an amazing person.â
She added that sheâs âalso very sexually attracted to him. And thatâs important. If you have a long-term sexual relationship, thatâs actually really healthy. Heâs my sexual object.â
Goldie shared a similar statement about her need to feel free in her relationship with People. âWhen I say freedom, it means liberation. I donât feel penned in,â she shared. âWe donât always agree on stuff, which is fine. Weâre both very spontaneous. [Our relationship] fed on a lot of goodness, a lot of wonderful life together.â Â
