Florida Teacher Arrested After Allegedly Having Sexual Relationship With Student That Lasted 1 Year

A Florida teacher has been arrested after he allegedly had a sexual relationship with a student at his school, which lasted for one year.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that detectives with the Special Victims Bureau arrested Michael J. Enriquez on Monday, June 1, for engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a student, according to CBS News.

Enriquez, 53, allegedly started his sexual relationship with the student in May 2025, who was just 17 years old at the time.

Enriquez, who worked as a teacher at American Senior High School in Miami-Dade, has been accused of caressing and holding hands with the student, according to the arrest report viewed by the outlet.

The teacher also reportedly invited the female student to have lunch near the school, and their time in his car was when their relationship turned physical.

Investigators said that Enriquez and the student were not in contact over the summer of 2025, though they began communicating again that fall and continued their sexual relationship when the school year resumed.

Their sexual relationship continued until May of this year after the student had turned 18.

Enriquez has been charged with unlawful sexual activity with a specified minor, lewd and lascivious touching and offenses against students by authority figures, according to online records reviewed by Us Weekly.

He is scheduled to appear in court for his first hearing regarding the charges on Tuesday, June 2.

It is not currently clear if Enriquez has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office had no additional information to share when contacted by Us.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said that they believe Enriquez may have additional victims. Authorities have asked that anyone with information regarding the investigation call the Special Victims Bureau as 305-715-3300 or the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).

Enriquez’s arrest has left many students in shock, with one person telling WSVN that “it’s really scary to think about how something like that could be happening, especially with how vulnerable, you know, we are.”

“We don’t know what’s going on with the student, what’s going on with us, and the teachers, they should be responsible, and they should be not exploiting something like that,” the student added.

A parent also expressed their shock over the incident, telling the outlet, “These kids are vulnerable, and then the teachers are taking advantage. [The students] have their own issues. They should get help before this happens; they should know better. It’s not the first case. It’s happened continuously, so there’s no excuse for it.”
