Debbie Gibson has shared a candid health update with fans after undergoing a routine medical procedure, using the moment to encourage others to prioritise their wellbeing.
The 80s pop icon took to Instagram over the weekend to post a heartfelt Reel filmed from her hospital bed in Las Vegas, offering followers an honest glimpse into her experience while reminding them of the importance of preventative health checks.
In the video, Debbie appears in a hospital gown under bright fluorescent lighting, smiling bravely as she documents the moment before and after undergoing a colonoscopy.
Alongside the clip, the singer shared a refreshingly open message about why she decided to speak publicly about the procedure.
âJust another glamorous weekend in Las Vegas!!!â she joked. âPeace of mind.â
The âLost in Your Eyesâ star went on to explain that although it may not be the most glamorous moment, she believes it is vital to encourage people to stay on top of their health.
âIâm not above posting in a hospital gown and fluorescent lighting this morning to tell you that procedures like this are a must if youâre of the age or are genetically predisposed or have any symptoms or a gut feeling⊠trust it,â she wrote.
âTrust your docs. Get all the check ups.â Debbie reassured fans that the procedure appeared to have gone well. âSeemingly all is a ok,â she added. âAnd in any case, best to have the facts as awareness about oneâs health is power.â
The singer explained that she is currently focusing on what she describes as a âhealth and wellness resetâ this spring, after acknowledging that she had previously postponed some medical appointments.
âIâm in that zone this Spring after admittedly kicking some health related things down the road,â she shared.
Despite the seriousness of the topic, Debbie kept her trademark sense of humour throughout the post, revealing that she even managed to find a light-hearted way to get through the experience.
âMy dogs and I made a party of it last night,â she wrote.
âItâs not fun. But this is my second colonoscopy in 10 years and Iâm of the belief this is the mac daddy test in its realm.â
She also emphasised the importance of balance in her life right now, noting that she has intentionally made space this year to focus on health, family and personal priorities beyond her career.
âIâm so happy to have made space this year for a health and wellness reset and to be there for people in my life and other non show biz related things needing my focus. Balance is key.â
Debbie said she decided to share the moment in real time in the hope that it might inspire others to book medical appointments they have been delaying.
âSharing all of this candidly and in real time in the hopes that some of you out there are inspired to make those appointments youâve been putting off,â she told fans. âYouâre worth it. The world can wait.â
The singer also expressed her gratitude to the medical team who cared for her during the procedure at Horizon Ridge Surgery Center.
âThank you to Dr Shih and the wonderful nurses pictured here @tarynokada and @pdizz79 who along with the entire staff at Horizon Ridge Surgery Center brought compassion, humour, and amazing energy to all of us who did this.â
Debbie, who shot to global fame in the late 1980s with chart-topping hits including âFoolish Beatâ and âShake Your Love,â has long been admired for her openness with fans, particularly when it comes to personal and health challenges.
The blonde beauty stunned at the Dancers Against Cancer Gala last October. Speaking exclusively to HELLO! at the star-studded event, she shared insight into her plans for an unscripted reality show. âIâve been cultivating a few key ideas with very high-level teams,â she said. âI think, without giving away the concept of the show, I get into the nooks and crannies of the country on tour and meet people as I travel on my RV; Iâve stopped at lemonade stands and Iâve been stuck in traffic jams and hopped out and handed out albums.â Â
