Christy Turlington and her Hollywood husband, Ed Burns, had much to celebrate this week as their daughter, Grace, graduated from college.
The supermodel, 57, marked the occasion with a touching post on Instagram, alongside several photos of her lookalike daughter, 22.
“What a week – and what a milestone. As a mother and as a parent, this moment feels profound,” she began.
“So many hopes and dreams for my firstborn are unfolding far sooner than I ever imagined. There’s a saying: educate a girl and you educate a nation. That’s a powerful responsibility.
“But if anyone is ready to carry it, it’s my daughter, alongside her friends and classmates who are already becoming the change they want to see in the world. Congratulations to all the graduates, and especially to mine.”
The photos featured Christy and Grace embracing following the ceremony, with Grace wearing a purple graduation gown, and a sweet family shot of her and both her parents, beaming at the camera.
Grace studied at New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study while juggling a modeling career, which she began when she was 18 after strict orders from her mom.
“I was officially allowed to begin modeling at 18; that was the age my mom always had in mind, and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Grace told HOMMES Magazine in 2022.
“I remember denying the interest to anyone and everyone because I hadn’t yet told her,” she added. “However, I’d longed to be 18 for some time. My first job was last January, after my birthday, after I had gotten into college.”
Grace made her runway debut in June 2023 at the British Vogue X LuisaViaRoma show in Italy. That same year, she and her mom also appeared in a Carolina Herrera campaign together.
Since then, she has appeared in campaigns for Kate Spade, Moynat, Re/Done, and more, and in spreads for Perfect Magazine, MUSE Magazine, and POP Magazine.
While Grace is making a success of her modeling career, her mom would have preferred her not to follow in her footsteps.
“I told her to stay far away from that,” Christy told People in 2024. “But she’s actually a storyteller, and I have a little bit of that in my work, too, as an advocate,” she continued, seemingly referring to Grace’s poetry book, Derived from Us.
“So in that sense, very excited, love her academic pursuits,” she added. “The other part was a little harder to be excited about.”
Despite their A-list parents, Christy and Ed tried to raise their children, they also share son Finn, 20, as normally as possible.
“We made a choice, and I think part of the reason we’re still very happily married and our kids are in a great place was we never took them to a movie premiere, we never took them to any entertainment event, ever,” Ed recently said on the On Par With Maury Povich podcast.
He added: “We just wanted them to think of their parents as mom and dad, with all the other mom and dads.”
