Cher was left “speechless” after discovering she has a secret 15-year-old granddaughter, a revelation that came during an emotional phone call and has since sparked a new chapter for the music icon.
According to an interview given to The Sun on Sunday, the unexpected family connection was revealed by Kayti Edwards, who says she shares a daughter, Ever, with Cher’s son Elijah Allman following a brief romance in 2010.
Kayti, who lives on a ranch in Joshua Tree, California, explained that the moment Cher learned the truth was nothing short of extraordinary.
“Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess,” she said. “When she heard the news, she was speechless.”
The 79-year-old superstar had reportedly heard whispers of the situation years earlier, after Elijah allegedly mentioned it in passing in 2021, but had not known whether to believe it.

But once the truth was confirmed, the emotional weight of the moment quickly set in. “Cher told her family, ‘Oh my God, I’m finally a grandma.’”
For Cher, who has previously spoken openly about her desire to become a grandmother, the revelation appears to have been both shocking and deeply meaningful. During the press tour for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018, she admitted: “I don’t have any grandchildren. I wish I did, I really do.”
© Kevin WinterNow, that long-held wish has unexpectedly come true. Kayti, 49, described her relationship with Elijah as long-standing but largely platonic, until one night together led to her pregnancy. She claims he was aware from the beginning but struggled with the idea of fatherhood.
“He always knew from day one, but he never wanted to be a parent,” she said, adding that he would occasionally check in over the years but remained distant.
It wasn’t until 2021, during a difficult period in Elijah’s life, that the truth began to surface within the wider family. Following an alleged overdose, he reportedly revealed he had a child, setting off rumours that would eventually reach Cher.
Despite the complicated circumstances, Kayti is clear that Ever has been raised by her husband, whom she describes as her daughter’s “true father.”

The situation came back into focus last year when Elijah experienced further health struggles, prompting Cher to reach out directly for answers.
“She wanted to know what had happened and then she asked me if it was true regarding Ever,” Kayti said. “That’s when I had to tell her the situation.”
Since then, steps have been taken to build a relationship, carefully and thoughtfully.
In September, Cher reportedly invited Kayti and Ever to her Malibu home for the first time. The visit, by all accounts, was warm and unexpectedly playful.
“She was like a kid herself,” Kayti said. “They played in the pool and she spoke to Ever about school and asked her about boys.”
The music legend also shared glimpses of her famously extensive wardrobe, even showing Ever a pair of jeans she once wore on stage, a moment Kayti described as “a cool experience” for her daughter.
Though still processing the news, Cher has made efforts to stay connected, sending gifts including a Chrome Hearts hoodie at Christmas and sweats for Ever’s birthday, along with a phone call to mark the occasion.
