Growing up the daughter of a famous rock star has made Eve Hewson ambivalent to fame, even if she works in showbiz.
The Disclosure Day actress, 34, is the daughter of Bono and his wife Ali Stewart, who have been married since 1982 and are also parents to daughter Jordan, 37, and sons Elijah, 26, and John, 25.Â
And though she made a conscious decision to follow in her fatherâs footsteps and pursue a career in entertainment, thanks to him, she can stay level headed about it.
Speaking with The Sunday Times, Eve reflected on growing up a ânepo baby,â alternating weeks on the road with her dad and as a regular student at school.
âYou go away and have a sort of unbelievable fantasy life,â she said of touring with her dad. âAnd then you come back and take the train to school in the rain and see your friends and do your homework.â
âI make all these friendships with these people for six months and then go back to my regular life,â she continued, noting: âI think it set me up for being able to manage it.â
Also reflecting on the early days of her career, entering the entertainment industry the daughter of someone already so famous within it, she recalled: âIt was just, like, people really donât take you seriously,â admitting: âWhen youâre going into castings and meeting with directors, you can really feel that. So you have to power through.â
âItâs definitely easier to get into the business, harder to be taken seriously. And thatâs fine,â she added, further sharing how, though she is certainly passionate about her career, her unique entry into the industry took fame âoff of a pedestal for me.â
âItâs the dumbest thing on the planet to want to be famous. Youâre losing all your privacy. Youâre putting yourself up for so much criticism. I donât know why we celebrate it so much,â she maintained.
Still, she is far less cynical when it comes to what motivated her to become an actress despite fameâs pitfalls.Â
âI got to spend two weeks on this movie set and that was it,â she said of her time filming The 27 Club, a 2008 indie film, in North Carolina when she was 15 years old.
âI had one mission in life and it was to be an actor,â she said. âI think it was the community feeling of everybody working really hard on one thing. Weâre all working on this thing we care about. Everyoneâs creative. Everyone has a voice.â
