Amanda Owen and her family were flooded with support on Tuesday after her youngest daughters, Nancy and Clemmy, helped deliver a pair of lambs.
The special moment was captured by the Our Yorkshire Farm mother, who coached her youngest of nine children as they calmly assisted with the birth on their farm in Swaledale.
Taking to Instagram, Amanda shared a video showing Clemmy, 10, and Nancy, nine, kneeling in the barn as they helped deliver the lamb. On hand if needed, Amanda instructed them to straighten the lamb’s legs before guiding Nancy to gently pull the feet out.
“Calmly and efficiently delivering a pair of lambs,” Amanda captioned the post. “The mother had been labouring for a while and was tiring so a helping hand was needed.Â
“Knowing when to sit back and watch and when to intervene is a skill learnt with experience. She could not be in more caring hands. What I like is to see the children’s pride and joy in what they can do. #shepherdess #farm #lambing #yorkshire #children.”
Fans commend Amanda and the girlsÂ
Amanda’s followers were quick to praise her hands-off parenting approach and congratulate the two girls on their skills.
“What amazing, incredible children you have. You are an incredible mother,” wrote one person, while another fan penned: “Wow, your amazing girls! Incredible children and family – you’ve taught them life skills so well! You should all be very proud of yourselves xxxx.”
“Fantastic achievement girls, they have had the best teachers in you and Clive,” said a third, while a fourth added: “Well done girls. I remember when my two girls delivered their first lamb 20 years ago and they’ve never forgotten it. Such a precious moment.”
Amanda later followed up the post with an adorable photo of Clemmy petting one of the lambs beside a burning hearth, captioning it: “Love ewe two.”
Who are Amanda Owen’s children?
Amanda and her ex-husband, Clive Owen, share nine children, including Raven, Reuben, Miles, Edith, Violet, Sidney, Annas, Clemmy and Nancy.Â
In an interview with Mother&Baby, Amanda previously revealed how she delivered her second-youngest daughter, Clemmy. “A freebirth was simply the most practical option,” she explained. “I knew I could cope – delivering lots of baby animals on the farm had been good training!”
When she began to feel movement, Amanda said she moved downstairs in front of the fire until she knew it was time to push.
“By the light of the fire, I saw my baby’s face looking up at me and blinking,” she said. “It was an incredible, intimate moment. In the next big push, the body slid out onto the cushion. I scooped my baby girl up, listening to her soft snuffles. My labour had lasted four minutes.”
