Woman Says Her Father Ate Her ‘Expensive’ Doughnuts Despite Her Taping a Sign to the Box That Said ‘Don’t Touch or Eat’

A woman was saving some doughnuts as a sweet treat for herself and her sister — but now she’s feeling salty after her dad ate them against her wishes.

The 20-year-old woman detailed the doughnut dilemma in a recent post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum, beginning by explaining that she lives at home and works part-time as a babysitter. One of the families she works for recently gave her a half-dozen doughnuts, which she and her sister were planning to eat together at “our leisure.”

The OP [original poster] explained that the doughnuts were “expensive” and not something the siblings would normally splurge on. To make sure their other family members understood that they had dibs on the doughnuts, her sister taped a note to the pastry box that read, “Don’t touch or eat.”

However, the next day the OP “woke up to him eating them,” referring to her father.

“I got mad and told him there was clearly a note not to eat it. He told me off and called me an a—— for making a big deal about it, saying that I should know whose home I’m sheltered with and who is putting food on the table,” the OP wrote. “Told me it was just doughnuts.”

“In my anger, I yelled and called him other colorful names, and [said] that those were something I wanted to enjoy with my sister, and they weren’t his, nor had he asked us if he could have some,” the OP continued.

She said her mother tried to intervene, telling her “to just let it go” and that she can buy some more doughnuts later using the money she earns from babysitting.

The OP clarified a few more “relevant” details about her situation in an edit to her post, explaining that she is a college student and has an online job in addition to her babysitting gigs. “I am also supporting my sister,” she shared. “My dad rarely pays the bills, My mom and I do.”

In the comments section, many fellow Redditors agreed that it wasn’t nice of the OP’s dad to eat her doughnuts. “This is disrespectful. You were gifted the donuts. It’s like him eating your birthday cake and being all ‘this is MY HOUSE.’ Like, sir, no,” one person wrote.

Another commented, “As someone who makes it a habit of getting a box of expensive donuts once a month, I feel you. I would be absolutely p—– if anyone ignored my note and ate them. Your dad is not a kid, he should know better.

“He does not have a right to your food, and his reaction when called out was childish,” they continued. “Him providing you a roof over your head is the bare minimum of what he’s supposed to do as a parent, not something you pay in donuts.”

A third commenter chimed in, “Next time you will know to take them to your room. Your dad cannot be trusted.”

Still, a few others shared the opinion that the OP was overreacting to the situation. “All this fuss over a few doughnuts? Let it go,” one Reddit user urged.
