Whoopi Goldberg cheerfully confessed she bar hops as a way to fulfill her sexual needs.
On Wednesdayâs episode of âThe View,â Goldberg noted, âA woman wrote an article in Cosmopolitan, admitting that she fantasizes about being single even though sheâs in a very happy longterm relationship.â
âShe writes that sometimes, she finds herself missing the days of casual flings and bar-hopping,â Goldberg continued as the audience giggled.
The âGhostâ actress then turned to her co-hosts for a reaction, to which Joy Behar responded, âDo you miss those days?â
Goldberg quipped, âI am single,â adding, âYeah, I bar hop, I go hang! And I do hit and runs when I need it.â
She noted, âI am not married to anybody, I donât have responsibility.â She then asked guest co-host Sara Eisen if sheâs married, which she confirmed.
âOkay, so you four have responsibilities,â Goldberg said, referring to Behar, Eisen, Sara Haines and Ana Navarro. âAnd the question is, do you ever miss the single life?â
Haines quipped that she does miss the single life, but not over bar hopping â she misses âa binge where I can sit and eat ice cream and no oneâs watching, and watch whatever I damn want.â
âI love being the center of my own world,â Haines joked, while Navaroo hilariously confessed that âitâs a good lifeâ when husband Al CĂĄrdenas is away.
This isnât the first time the âSister Actâ star has declared her preference for the single life.
âI am fundamentally a selfish person and Iâve found that because I have a wonderful kid and a son-in-law and three grandkids and one great-grand[kid], that I donât have time for a whole lot of other people coming into my life,â she said during a May 2024 appearance on âThe Don Lemon Show.â
âHit and runs are great, I donât mind those,â she divulged. âBut, you canât spend the night.â When asked by Lemon if her hookups âstill happen,â Goldberg replied, âoh yeah.â
Addressing the stigma of not wanting a traditional committed relationship, Goldberg said she needed to give herself âpermissionâ to own those feelings.
âYou have this whole line of words that are stacked up in your head about what you are if you say a hit and run is where you want to be and you donât want to be married,â she explained.
âWhat I didnât realize was that I had figured it out,â the TV personality went on. âI just was surprised by the fact that I didnât really want it, but I liked to hit and run. And my mother said, âwell maybe you should just throw a party from now and on and not get married anymore.ââ
Goldberg, 70, didnât hold back when telling Lemon that she doesnât have patience for the âgive and takeâ of marriage. âIt requires a lot,â the âColor Purpleâ star said. âI want to see you when I see you and then you go.â
The actress was thrice married â to Alvin Martin, with whom she shares daughter Alexandra, from 1973 to 1979; to David Claessen from 1986 to 1988; and to Lyle Trachtenberg, from 1994 to 1995.
