Jane Seymour’s romantic history has been back in the spotlight after the actress playfully “admitted” she once married Queen frontman Freddie Mercury – a tongue-in-cheek comment that reignited interest in her real-life relationships. Over the decades, the British-American star has walked down the aisle four times, later reflecting candidly that each of her husbands ultimately filed for divorce.

“I’ve always done the best I could; I took my kids all over the world whenever I was working, I had them on set with me,” she told People. “And I somehow managed to juggle it. I was married to men who had different issues, and I never ended the marriages – they did, by finding other people!”

Best known for her enduring grace on-screen and her long career spanning Bond girl status to beloved TV roles like Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, Jane’s private life has been equally eventful. Today, the 75-year-old actress has been linked in recent years to musician John Zambetti, whom she was set up with through the pair’s adult children. “I honestly never thought I would find a really committed, healthy, lovely, loving relationship at this time of my life, but I’m incredibly blessed that I have,” Jane told HELLO! exclusively. “70 is the new 50.”

From youthful first marriages to a high-profile Hollywood union that lasted more than two decades, here’s a look back at Jane’s ex-husbands and what made each relationship unique.

Jane’s first marriage came early in her rise to fame when she wed theatre director Michael Attenborough, son of legendary filmmaker Richard Attenborough, in 1971. At the time, Jane was still establishing herself as a young actress in Britain.

The union was relatively short-lived, lasting just two years, and ended in divorce as Jane’s career momentum grew. Despite the brevity of their marriage, the connection placed Jane firmly within one of Britain’s most influential creative dynasties, a network that helped shape her early professional trajectory.

Jane’s second marriage was to British actor Geoffrey Planer, known for his stage and television work. The pair tied the knot in the late 1970s during a period when Jane’s career was transitioning from UK productions to more international opportunities.

Their relationship proved even shorter than her first, lasting around a year. The marriage coincided with a transformative phase in her life, as she began to pursue major film and television roles that would soon catapult her to global recognition.

Jane found greater stability in her third marriage to businessman David Flynn, whom she wed in 1981. Their union lasted more than a decade and brought two children – daughter Katherine and son Sean. During these years, Jane’s career flourished, particularly in television, while she also embraced family life. However, the relationship eventually came under strain, with Jane later revealing that David was the one who filed for divorce.

The marriage remains one of her most formative, both personally and professionally, as she navigated the demands of Hollywood alongside raising a young family. “The sooner you can accept it, the better for you and others,” she said about dealing with divorce. “And then when you look out from yourself and look around to see what other people are suffering or challenged by, you realize what you have is minimal compared to other people’s challenges.”

Jane’s longest and most high-profile marriage was to actor and filmmaker James Keach, brother of actor Stacy Keach. The couple wed in 1993 and went on to welcome twin sons, John and Kristopher, in 1995.

Their partnership spanned more than two decades and included creative collaborations, with Keach producing projects that featured Jane. The marriage appeared solid for many years, making their eventual separation in 2013 – and subsequent divorce in 2015 – a surprise to fans.

She remains philosophical about their split, saying that she doesn’t regret working hard while raising a family. “I tried to look at my side of things: ‘What could I have done differently?’ But it’s hard when you’re a mother and you work. It means sometimes you’re gone… that’s the only thing I can look at that I did really wrong – I went to work,” she said. “But I was providing for the whole family, so it’s very hard.”
