Country music icon Dolly Parton died today, Aug. 25. She was 80.
Partonâs nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver, announced her death in a video posted to Partonâs social media.
âBy her example, we believed that anything was possible,â he said in the video. âShe never saw a door she couldnât open and the doors she opened made and changed history. My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you.â
Throughout her seven-decade career, Parton recorded 49 studio albums, composed over 3,000 songs, won 11 Grammys and one Academy Award.
Additionally, Parton acted in a number of beloved films. Hereâs where you can watch some of her on-screen work.
Parton made her feature film debut in â9 to 5â alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. The movie, based on an idea by Fonda, follows three working women who live out their fantasies of getting even with and overthrowing their companyâs autocratic, âsexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigotâ vice president.
The theme song from â9 to 5â became one of Partonâs biggest hits and won two Grammy awards. The movie was adapted into a musical in 2009; Parton composed the musical score and was nominated for a Tony Award.
