Sarah Ferguson might have reason to celebrate, becoming a grandmother for the fifth time after Princess Eugenie welcomed her third child. However, the former Duchess of York has been lying low for nearly a year since she was stripped of her royal title and evicted from Royal Lodge alongside ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

While the 66-year-old would normally share her joy at a new arrival in the family, she has remained silent as she continues to .

HELLO!’s royal editor, Emily Nash, previously wrote that Sarah will find it difficult to stay away from her new granddaughter. She wrote in May: “This baby will be born into very different family dynamics to those experienced by his or her older siblings. While their grandmother and grandfather have spent plenty of time with August and Ernest, they are likely to keep more of a distance this time around, although I’m sure Sarah will find it very hard to stay away from a new grandchild.”

The last time Sarah’s whereabouts were reported, it was claimed that she was staying in Switzerland at a property owned by her close friend, businessman Paddy McNally. Sarah used to date Paddy, who passed away at the age of 88 in July 2026, and the pair remained close before his death.

She had previously been staying in Austria, and was photographed at the £14,000-a-week MayrLife Clinic back in March before a 90-day limit on staying in the European Union ran out. Once this expired, she reportedly headed to Paddy’s chalet, known as Les Gais Lutins.

In March, Hollywood icon Priscilla Presley was reported to have offered Sarah a place to stay in Los Angeles amid the public scrutiny. However, the star’s representatives later issued a statement insisting that the allegations were “totally false”.

She is also reported to have spent some time at the Paracelsus Recovery Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland, which she previously described as a “safe harbour in the storms of life”.

Where will Sarah Ferguson go now?

What the future holds for Sarah, sometimes known as Fergie, is more uncertain than ever. However, a source told HELLO! that she would not be joining Andrew after he was forced to move to Sandringham. “She has stood by him all these years but is now ready to spread her wings.”

They continued: “She won’t be moving in with him to the new house on the Sandringham Estate. She won’t be moving into Beatrice’s Cotswolds home though. Eugenie’s home in Portugal is a contender while she finds somewhere.”

Royal expert Phil Dampier recently suggested that Sarah “will want to try and get back in with the King for the sake of her daughters”. The author told the Daily Mail that the former Duchess would want to “at least not upset” the monarch.
