The 98th Academy Awards presented a new class of winners with their very own golden statuettes, from One Battle After Another director Paul Thomas Anderson taking home three in one night, to Michael B. Jordan, Amy Madigan, and Jessie Buckley getting their first acting wins.
Much has already been made about how heavy an Oscar can be (it weighs approximately 8.5 lbs), and what one does after the ceremony to celebrate (like Michael hitting up In-N-Out Burger for a quick bite).
But when youâre presented with one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon an actor, the question then becomes: where does your Oscar go?
Fortunately, some of Hollywoodâs favorite Oscar winners have chimed in over the years with some of the unconventional spots their trophies end up at. Here are just a few of our favoritesâŠ
Kate Winslet won Best Actress in 2009 for The Reader, and now keeps her statue in her bathroom. âThe whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, âIâd like to thank my son and my dadââand you can always tell when someone has, because theyâre in there a little bit longer after they flushed,â she told WSJ. Magazine. âTheyâll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. Itâs hysterical.â
Apparently itâs a running theme, two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster (winning in 1989 for The Accused and 1992 for Silence of the Lambs) also keeps her Oscars in her bathroom. âBecause they looked good with the faucets,â she once said per ABC News. âBut when they started getting corroded on the bottom, I had to move them to a trophy case in my den.â
While Goldie Hawn may not have been in attendance in 1970 to accept her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Cactus Flower, now she can reflect on it as much as she wants. âMy award is in the room where I study and practice meditation,â she told InStyle (per E! News). âSometimes itâs on the mantel; sometimes I put it away.â
Gwyneth Paltrow, who won Best Actress in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love, prefers to keep her Oscar hidden away. âI keep it tucked away at the back of the bookshelf in my bedroom because it weirds me out,â she confessed to the Sydney Morning Herald. âFor weeks after I won I kept it in storage⊠I wonât even put it on the mantelpiece, the thing freaks me out.â
In 2015, Black Swanâs Best Actress Oscar winner Natalie Portman confessed to The Hollywood Reporter that she wasnât actually sure where her trophy is now. âI donât know where it is,â she admitted. âI think itâs in the safe or something. I donât know. I havenât seen it in a while.â
After winning Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for Dallas Buyers Club, Jared Leto put his statuette in the most obvious yet inconspicuous location. âThe Oscar is sitting in my kitchen guarded by some vegan butter and a bag of popcorn,â he told Entertainment Tonight.
Susan Sarandonâs at the Museum of Natural History
After winning Best Actress in 1996 for Dead Man Walking, Susan Sarandon also kept her trophy in the bathroom. But then, as she revealed on Oprah: âBut right now my Oscar got bored of being in the bathroom, and now itâs on tour. The Museum of Natural History [in Chicago] took it. I lent it to them for their gold exhibition.â
Per The Guardian, The Hours star and 2003âs Best Actress winner Nicole Kidman keeps her statue on her parentsâ mantelpiece in Sydney, where apparently even neighbors pass by to give it a look-see.
