Where are the original cast of Cold Feet nearly 30 years after ITV drama first aired?

Fans have been loving ITV’s comedy drama Cold Feet since it first aired 29 years ago. The comedy-drama series followed the ups and downs of three couples, and it lasted for five seasons. 13 years after it ended, the show returned for a further four seasons, concluding in 2020.

The original show starred the likes of James Nesbitt, Helen Baxendale, John Thomson, Fay Ripley, Robert Bathurst and Hermione Norris, and it helped launch their careers. Five of the actors returned when the show was revived, but Helen didn’t after her character was killed during the fifth season.

The cast still hold fond memories of their time on the ITV show and making a joint appearance on the Reasons to Be Joyful podcast, they were enthusiastic about the possibility of the show returning.

John hinted: “After the success of Gavin & Stacey bringing back their Christmas special, why not test the water with a Cold Feet Christmas special?”

James Nesbitt

James shot to fame thanks to his role as Adam Williams in the ITV smash hit, and he continued to play several ‘cheeky chappy’ roles in the early part of his career, before eventually transitioning into dramatic roles. The 61-year-old is now known for his roles in Murphy’s Law, Jekyll, The Hobbit and Line of Duty.

The star has earned dozens of awards throughout his career, including four for Cold Feet, with the star winning at the likes of the British Comedy Awards and the National Television Awards.

In 1994, James married Sonia Forbes-Adam, and the pair welcomed two daughters, who have since made cameo appearances in The Hobbit films as daughters of Bard the Bowman. However, in 2013, it was announced that the couple were separating, and their divorce was finalised three years later in 2016.

In 2015, the actor was linked with Katy Gleadhill, and the pair have been an item since 2021, after they had a brief split over their differing views on starting a family.

Helen Baxendale

Helen appeared in the first five seasons of Cold Feet as Rachel Bradley, however, in the fifth season the character was shockingly killed off. Due to this, Helen didn’t reprise her role when the show made its return.

Before Cold Feet, the star’s biggest role was in British medical drama Cardiac Arrest, which saw her nominated for a BAFTA Scotland Award. While the show was airing, she also secured a recurring role in Friends, playing Ross Geller’s love interest, Emily Waltham in the fourth and fifth seasons.

The actress has since appeared in Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple, Inspector George Gently, Cuckoo and Noughts + Crosses.

Helen has been in a long-term relationship with film director and writer David L. Williams since the early stages of her career. Although the pair have never married, they have welcomed three children, including actress Nell Williams, known for her roles in Game of Thrones and Young Sherlock.

John Thomson

John was known for playing Pete Gifford in the popular ITV series, and the star made his professional debut in 1990 when he provided several voices for Spitting Image. During the run of the show, his character, Pete Gifford, went through several ups and downs with his partner, Jenny, with both having separate affairs.

Away from the ITV hit, the 56-year-old has appeared in Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Grimsby, Kingdom, Death in Paradise and Silent Witness.

John married his girlfriend, Samantha Sharp in 2005, and the couple are parents to two daughters, Olivia, 23, and Sophia, 15. The couple divorced in 2015.

Fay Ripley

Fay appeared in every season of Cold Feet as Jenny Gifford, although her character was only a guest role in the fifth season. In the first episode of the show, Jenny welcomes a child with Pete, but the new parents didn’t always end up finding happiness with one another. Fay’s portrayal of Jenny earned plenty of praise, with the star winning a BAFTA in 1999.

The actress made her acting debut in 1995 as Karen Hughes in the thriller Mute Witness. The 60-year-old has since appeared in Roseanna’s Grave, Reggie Perrin, New Tricks, Suspects and Finders Keepers.

Fay is married to Australian actor Daniel Lapaine (The Durrells), but their love story sounds like a TV drama, with the pair initially thinking the other wasn’t interested in dating. They also became a couple after reconnecting on a holiday, before marrying in 2001. In 2006, the duo welcoming their son, Sonny.

Robert Bathurst

Robert was already an established actor when he appeared in the comedy drama as David Marsden, the husband of Karen Marsden. During the fifth season, the couple divorce.

Before appearing on the show, Robert had featured in Red Dwarf, Anything More Would Be Greedy and Joking Apart. The 69-year-old has since acted in the likes of My Dad’s the Prime Minister, My Family, Downton Abbey, Toast of London and Mrs. Brown’s Boys D’Movie.

In 1985, the actor married artist Victoria Threlfall, after they introduced by mutual friends. The pair have since welcomed four children, Matilda, Clemency, Oriel and Honor.

Hermione Norris

Hermione shot to fame when she landed the role of Karen Marsden in Cold Feet, even though the character faced her own trials and tribulations, including a messy divorce and several affairs.

Before appearing in the show, Hermione was known for roles in Casualty, Spatz, Between the Lines and The Bill. The actress has since starred in Spooks, Wire in the Blood, Kingdom, Doc Martin and Death in Paradise.

Since 2002, Hermione has been married to screenwriter Simon Wheeler, who wrote Kingdom, and the couple share two children.
