Meg Ryan made a rare and stylish appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, turning heads in a sleek satin gown while subtly revealing a meaningful tattoo that reflects her outlook on life.
The When Harry Met Sally actress, now 64, stepped onto the star-studded carpet following the 98th Academy Awards looking effortlessly elegant in a shimmering olive-gold dress that skimmed her silhouette. The sleeveless gown featured a softly structured bodice and flowing skirt, giving the Hollywood icon a timeless, understated glamour.
Meg completed the look with a tousled blonde bob, natural makeup and delicate gold jewellery, striking a series of relaxed poses for photographers. In one playful moment she flashed a peace sign, smiling warmly as cameras captured her rare public appearance.
While her polished look drew plenty of attention, eagle-eyed fans also noticed a glimpse of the actress’s small tattoo on her left arm.
Located on her left arm, the tattoo reads: “Life is short,” a simple but powerful phrase that Meg has previously said reflects how she approaches life.
Speaking to The Los Angeles Times in 2016, the actress explained that the sentiment serves as a guiding philosophy.
“You know what you know and you do what you do, and hopefully you’re just alive and curious,” she said at the time.
The message feels fitting for the beloved star, who has spent decades juggling Hollywood while maintaining a famously private personal life.
Meg has largely stepped away from the relentless spotlight in recent years, making only occasional public appearances at major industry events.
Her outing at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party therefore delighted fans, many of whom grew up watching her in some of the most iconic romantic comedies of the 1990s.
The actress became a household name thanks to hits including When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, where her on-screen charm helped define an entire era of Hollywood romance.
Though she has been more selective about projects in recent years, Meg has continued to work behind the scenes as a director and producer. In 2023 she returned to the genre that made her famous with What Happens Later, a romantic comedy she both directed and starred in.
She was last seen at a big event in 2024 at the Heart of Sarajevo at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival.
During her speech, Meg spoke with the crowd about her gratitude for the festival, and also praised the citizens of Sarajevo for their resilience during the siege of the country during the Bosnian war, during which the festival was first created.
She said: “I’m just so happy to be here and thank you face to face for the example during the siege. Those stories about how this community came together and how you dodged bullets and risked your lives to go see films, to make music, to dance to music, to sing, to be together…”
