What Meghan Markle reportedly told Prince William at secret teatime meeting – report

The Duchess of Sussex allegedly told the Prince of Wales, “Get your finger out of my face,” during a teatime “reconciliation” meeting in 2018, following ongoing tension between him and his brother, Prince Harry, and their wives in the lead up to their royal wedding.

The meeting, writes journalist Tom Bower, whose new book, Betrayal, is being serialised in the Times, occurred following Harry and Meghan’s honeymoon, and took place in the then-Cambridges’ Kensington Palace apartment.

He wrote: “‘If you don’t mind, get your finger out of my face,’ Meghan Markle snapped at William. The teatime reconciliation meeting between the brothers and their wives had spun out of control. Sitting in the Cambridges’ recently redecorated 20-room Kensington Palace apartment, soon after the Sussexes returned from their honeymoon in June 2018, Harry watched the confrontation escalate.”

While there were reported tensions between Meghan and her sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales, in the lead-up to the London nuptials, documented by Prince Harry in his bombshell memoir, Spare, a spokesperson for the  Sussexes said Tom Bower’s upcoming novel has “crossed the line.”

They said: “Mr Bower’s commentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation.  This is someone who has publicly stated, ‘the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,’  language that speaks for itself. He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met. 

“Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”

What was the tension between Meghan and Kate?

In his memoir, Spare, Prince Harry explained how his wife upset the Princess of Wales by suggesting that she had “baby brain” in the run-up to the 2018 royal wedding.

Harry claimed that the conversation took place during a phone call about wedding rehearsals. When Kate told Meghan that she had forgotten something amid the planning, Meghan reportedly told Kate that she had “baby brain”.

Prince Harry further claimed that his brother Prince William reprimanded Meghan over her triggering comments. He explained how William pointed a finger at the former Suits actress and said that her “rude” remark fell short of royal protocol.

Harry claimed that his sister-in-law was left distraught by Meghan’s remark, arguing that the two women weren’t close enough to discuss Kate’s hormones.
