What happened to ’90s teen idol Elizabeth Berkley? Inside her life now after being ‘locked out’ of Hollywood following controversial 1995 movie

Elizabeth Berkley got her start in the mid-to-late ’80s with roles in Gimme a Break!, Silver Spoons and TV movie Frog. 

In 1989, she became a household name on Saved by the Bell, starring as Jessie Spano for a total of 75 episodes.

Elizabeth faced heavy and undeserved criticism for her role in 1995’s Showgirls. While the show is now considered a camp classic, at the time, the 23-year-old Elizabeth faced harsh feedback from critics.

The actress said she was ‘locked out’ of Hollywood for the next two years. Fortunately, the film’s reevaluation has brought Elizabeth back onto the red carpet.

Elizabeth married menswear designer, painter and former actor Greg Lauren, nephew of Ralph Lauren, in 2003. They met three years previously at a dance class.

Greg has been credited on projects like Boogie Nights, Batman & Robin and Batman Forever and has sold his artwork to celebs like Renée Zellweger and Demi Moore.

The actress welcomed son Sky Cole Lauren in 2012, weighing in at 8 lbs. They said, the “moment we both saw him it was love at first sight”.

The couple added: “We are over the moon and grateful to start this amazing adventure together as a family.”

Elizabeth has returned to the spotlight with recent credits including episode appearances on All’s Fair and Cobra Kai.

She’s also appeared on the reboot of Saved by the Bell, reprising her role as Jessie Spano. Elizabeth is also an author, publishing teenage guidebook Ask Elizabeth.
