Viola Davis is a butt-kicking American president in her latest movie.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, Prime Video shared an explosive trailer for its new thriller G20. It stars Davis, 59, as U.S. president Danielle Sutton, who is caught under siege at the international organization’s summit in South Africa when it is attacked. After Sutton evades an initial capture by those attacking the summit, “she must outsmart the enemy to protect her family, defend her country and safeguard world leaders,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The trailer meets President Sutton as she takes her two children to the G20 summit. After the summit is upended by a group of attackers (led by The Boys’ Antony Starr) who plot to “reset the world’s financial markets” via a plan called Project Deepfake and hold world leaders hostage, Sutton escapes and works with others to fight back against the occupying forces herself.

“This is Viola Davis as you’ve never seen her — heroically kicking tons of ass in a global thrill ride,” director Patricia Riggen said in a January statement when the movie was first announced. “With G20, I wanted to make the kind of classic, edge-of-your-seat action film that I’ve always been such a fan of, but one that draws on the high stakes of our modern and technologically advanced world we live in. I hope to give audiences an experience that will captivate them from start to finish.”

Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodriguez, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, The White Lotus‘ Sabrina Impacciatore and Christopher Farrar also costar in the upcoming film.

Davis’ new movie was written by Caitlin Parrish, Erica Weiss, Logan Miller and Noah Miller. Davis is a producer on the film alongside her husband of 21 years, Julius Tennon. G20 marks Davis’ first movie of 2025; she most recently voiced a character in last year’s Kung Fu Panda 4 and last appeared onscreen with 2023’s Hunger Games film The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Air.

G20 premieres April 10 on Prime Video.
