Viola Davis is a butt-kicking American president in her latest movie.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, Prime Video shared an explosive trailer for its new thriller G20. It stars Davis, 59, as U.S. president Danielle Sutton, who is caught under siege at the international organizationâs summit in South Africa when it is attacked. After Sutton evades an initial capture by those attacking the summit, âshe must outsmart the enemy to protect her family, defend her country and safeguard world leaders,â a synopsis for the film reads.
The trailer meets President Sutton as she takes her two children to the G20 summit. After the summit is upended by a group of attackers (led by The Boysâ Antony Starr) who plot to âreset the worldâs financial marketsâ via a plan called Project Deepfake and hold world leaders hostage, Sutton escapes and works with others to fight back against the occupying forces herself.
âThis is Viola Davis as youâve never seen her â heroically kicking tons of ass in a global thrill ride,â director Patricia Riggen said in a January statement when the movie was first announced. âWith G20, I wanted to make the kind of classic, edge-of-your-seat action film that Iâve always been such a fan of, but one that draws on the high stakes of our modern and technologically advanced world we live in. I hope to give audiences an experience that will captivate them from start to finish.â

Davisâ new movie was written by Caitlin Parrish, Erica Weiss, Logan Miller and Noah Miller. Davis is a producer on the film alongside her husband of 21 years, Julius Tennon. G20 marks Davisâ first movie of 2025; she most recently voiced a character in last yearâs Kung Fu Panda 4 and last appeared onscreen with 2023âs Hunger Games film The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Air.Â
