While Brooklyn, 27, and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, 31, soaked up the sun aboard Sir Elton Johnâs yacht last week, David and Victoria walked hand in hand to a nearby Italian restaurant.
The Beckhams had spent the previous days cruising around the island of Formentera, accompanied by the rest of their children: Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 15, plus Romeoâs girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, 25.
The sighting comes as an explosive new book prepares to shine a light on what really happened behind the scenes to break the familyâs once rock-solid bond.
Brand Beckham by Alison Boshoff, published on 13 August, examines the origins of the bitter rift while charting how David and Victoria built their formidable global empire. But it is the insight relating to the feud between Brooklyn and his parents that is undoubtedly one of the most revealing aspects of the book.Â
Elton John the peacemaker?
Speaking exclusively to HELLO!, Alison says that the estrangement will not be ending any time soon, although Brooklynâs recent outing with Elton, his godfather, could offer a glimmer of hope.
âI wouldnât be surprised if family friends like Sir Elton John, whom both sides really respect, were able to encourage and broker some kind of peace,â Alison says of the singer, who is a long-time confidant of the Beckhams. âI think thatâs the best chance of it happening, because itâs now reached the âspeak to me through my lawyersâ point.â
She adds: âEspecially on Brooklynâs side, the more people I spoke to [for the book], the more I came to understand that the schism is complete as far as heâs concerned.
âVictoria and David are still sticking to their view that theyâve done nothing wrong, and until that changes on either side, there isnât a prospect of reconciliation.â
Victoria Beckhamâs controversial wedding dance
It has been more than six months since Brooklyn revealed the full extent of the rift with his family, levelling shocking allegations against them. One of the most intriguing parts of his statement, made in January via Instagram, was his recollection of an awkward dance involving his mother at his lavish wedding to Nicola in Palm Beach in April 2022.
Speculation mounted as to who was really at fault, but trouble had been brewing for a long time before the controversial dancefloor incident, in which Victoria was accused of trying to take the spotlight away from the bride.
âIt was a mystery to me about what had gone on at the wedding, as I didnât understand why that dance had landed with such an explosive force,â Alison says. âBut then someone told me that the Beckhams and the Peltz Beckhams hadnât been on speaking terms for three months in the run-up to the wedding. Now I can see why the dance landed like a declaration of war.â
She continues: âNicolaâs dad [the American billionaire Nelson Peltz] had paid all this money and she had changed into a new dress just before the dance â it was a big moment. I think anyone who was there knew that something had gone badly wrong at that point. If only a proper apology had been made at the time, we might not be here.â
Indeed, the wedding tension was so severe that Brooklyn and Nicola no longer even celebrate their original anniversary. Instead, the couple marked a fresh start last week by sharing photos from their August 2, 2025 vow renewal at the Peltz family estate in Westchester, New York, where Nicolaâs father, Nelson, officiated.
Some critics have placed the blame for the feud squarely with Nicola, but Alison says that isnât a fair assumption. âSome have said that Nicola is manipulative, but I think thatâs something people say about women who know their mind and donât feel inclined to give way. Why should she compromise? This is her relationship.Â
âEqually with David and Victoria, I can totally see where theyâre coming from.â
David and Victoriaâs united front
Although the estrangement shows no sign of ending, it does appear to have united David and Victoria as a couple. They have weathered some storms over the course of their 27-year marriage but now appear to be stronger than ever.Â
âI was told that the Covid-19 lockdown was good for them, as it meant they were together as a family unit and realised how much they enjoyed each otherâs company,â Alison says.
âWhen the Nicola thing started to unravel, Iâm told that it brought them closer together because they are united about it and support each other. Theyâve come out very strong as a couple and donât seem ever to have been happier.â Â Â
Brand Beckham âcomes firstâ
One of Brooklynâs most damning accusations was that the family dynamic was fabricated as a means of boosting Brand Beckham.
âFor my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,â he wrote in January. âThe performative social-media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. My family values public promotion and endorsement above all else. Brand Beckham comes first.â
âWhat is really fascinating to me is the interplay between the family and celebrity power, and how that has defined all of the relationships between father and son and husband and wife,â Alison says. âYet at the heart of the whole conflict, itâs a love story and a family story.Â
âEveryoneâs got a family, so everyone can relate, and many go through these exact flashpoints when somebody chooses a life partner. They might not be the life partner that your parents really love, but as soon as you express an opinion, youâre setting yourself up for a conflict in which your child will 100% stand by the person theyâve chosen.â
The unstoppable rise of David and Victoria to worldwide fame and fortune has been impressive: the former England football captain was recently declared a billionaire, making him the UKâs first sportsman to reach that milestone. Alison says in her book that the couple have turned âfame into an art formâ.
âI think thatâs why itâs such a fascinating story,â she tells us. âOne source told me that they were like social-media influencers before such a thing existed. This is why they were so brilliant at being celebrities and why they are where they are now.â
Their happiness was only enhanced when David was knighted by the King last year. âDavid is genuinely a proud Englishman and a devout royalist, and itâs the honour of his life that heâs been able to have a friendship with the King and receive a knighthood,â Alison says. âHe is an amazing ambassador for England.â
Yet despite this career highlight, the feud has continued to develop since Alison finished her book earlier this year. Harper is now implicated, after the teenager was captured by paparazzi delivering a letter to her brother at his home in Los Angeles. A spokesperson representing Brooklyn and Nicola claimed that it was a choreographed move â something that sources close to David and Victoria deny.
David, Victoria and their three younger children â plus Cruzâs girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, 30 â spent the best part of a month in the US during this summerâs Fifa World Cup, not once crossing paths with Brooklyn, who in turn took part in a controversial advert for DoorDash in which he appeared to poke fun at the estrangement.Â
âHe must have been incredibly badly advised [to do that],â Alison says. âEverything that people in his camp have said to me is that heâs hurt and wants to be left in peace, so I donât understand why he did it.â
Harper, meanwhile, appears to be the next young Beckham tipped for individual fame, following in the footsteps of Romeo, a model, and Cruz, a musician. It is believed that she will launch her own beauty brand, focusing on clean skincare products for young people, as early as next year, when she turns 16.Â
Thereâs likely to be more on the horizon for David, who reportedly made around ÂŁ19m from a series of partnerships and endorsements around this yearâs World Cup. âI know his team are eternally ambitious, always looking out for the next big deal,â Alison says.
The author doesnât believe that the controversy has damaged the Beckham brand in any way. âItâs made them all the more exciting and interesting, putting them at the centre of global conversations,â she says.
âItâs made David and Victoria look sympathetic â and not really addressing it in public has made them look quite dignified in response to Brooklynâs loud complaints.â
She thinks that there will be even more success in the coming months. Victoriaâs beauty brand, Victoria Beckham Beauty, continues to go from strength to strength, while her fashion label recently turned a profit. Romeoâs modelling career is thriving and Cruz recently played some gigs in the US.
âI was speaking to someone who said they actually think that this year has been Davidâs biggest one yet,â Alison says, âand that next year would probably be even bigger.â
