Vice President JD Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, believes it’s unreasonable to have a Secret Service detail for their 2-month-old baby, Alec.
“He has a Secret Service detail. None of our newborns had that before,” the Second Lady of the United States told the Daily Wire in an interview published on Tuesday.
“It’s sort of an absurdity because he’s always attached to me,” she added.
“He’s never anywhere far from me.”
Usha, 40, and JD, 42, tied the knot in June 2014 in an interfaith ceremony in Kentucky. The pair welcomed their fourth child, Alec, on July 19.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,” the couple said in a statement on Instagram at the time.
“The incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit have been a blessing,” Usha and JD added.
“We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family.”
JD joked in March that he was “persuasive” in convincing his wife to have another child after she told him he could either “become vice president or … have a fourth baby.”
Usha, however, clarified to NBC News later that month that she “never closed the door” on conceiving again, but “wasn’t sure.”
“But as time passed, I realized that I was feeling more and more excited about that possibility,” the lawyer told the outlet.
They are also parents to sons Ewan, 9, and Vivek, 6, and daughter Mirabel, 4.
News of Usha’s fourth pregnancy came on the heels of divorce speculation, sparked by the mom of four being spotted in public without her wedding ring during her visit to military training facility Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, last November.
However, Usha’s spokesperson explained away the sparkler’s absence, telling People: “She is a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.”
