A Goodreads account seemingly belonging to Luigi Mangione, the suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has surfaced.
The account has come to light amid Mangione’s detainment at an Altoona, Pa., McDonalds, where he was found in possession of a 9mm “ghost gun,” multiple fake IDs, and a 3-page manifesto critical of the health insurance industry, following Thompson’s Wednesday, Dec. 4 death.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Mangione’s manifesto indicated he “has some ill will toward corporate America.” Bullet casings found at the scene of the crime also had engravings with the words “deny,” “defend” and “depose,” similar to a phrase about the insurance industry to describe a strategy of rejecting claims, “delay, deny, defend,” which was used as the title of a 2010 book by Rutgers University professor Jay Feinman.
While a motive remains unclear, Mangione’s Goodreads account shows that he read and gave a four-star review to Theodore (Ted) John Kaczynski’s Industrial Society and Its Future, also known as the Unabomber Manifesto.
Although Mangione wrote on Goodreads that Kaczynski was a “violent individual” who was “rightfully imprisoned,” he described his actions “as those of an extreme political revolutionary.”
He also liked a quote from Kurt Vonnegut’s anti-war novel Slaughterhouse-Five, and John Stuart Mill’s economic textbook Principles of Political Economy and a quote from Tim Urban comparing knowledge to a tree.
The account shows that he had been reading books such as Michael Pollan’s How to Change Your Mind, which examines the history of psychedelic drugs, and Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, which explores the food industry.
Another book Manigone appeared to be reading was Markus Zusak’s historical fiction The Book Thief, set in Nazi Germany during World War II.

PEOPLE previously confirmed that Mangione was the valedictorian of the Gilman School, a prestigious boys’ prep school in Baltimore. An X account belonging to a person by the same name states he has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania.
