Tom Hanks Shares Photo of Wife Rita Wilson in a Swimsuit to Celebrate Her 69th Birthday

Tom Hanks posted a loving tribute to wife Rita Wilson in celebration of her 69th birthday.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, October 26, to mark the milestone, Hanks, also 69, shared a photo of Wilson wearing a black swimsuit as she emerged from crystal-clear waters. “This beautiful woman celebrates her birthday TODAY. She is beloved by her husband. Happy Birthday, @ritawilson!” the Forrest Gump star captioned the snap.

Wilson, who celebrated her 37th wedding anniversary with Hanks at the end of April, appeared radiant in the photo, grinning from ear-to-ear and pairing her swimwear with a wrist adorned with bracelets.

Several high-profile fans showed their appreciation for the post, with stars including Jennifer Garner, Isla Fisher and Hannah Waddingham hitting Like on the photo.

The image appeared to have been taken during a vacation to an undisclosed tropical location that Hanks first offered insight into while marking the pair’s wedding anniversary via Instagram on May 1. Sharing a shirtless selfie with a hand on Wilson’s shoulder as she snapped the shot, Hanks captioned the original photo, “37 years married. Today! Love you, Mrs. – Mr.THanks.”

Wilson is also accustomed to sharing sweet social media love when it comes to celebrating her spouse’s birthday, taking to her own Instagram account in July to mark Hanks’ 69th birthday. “Happy Birthday, my love. 🩷,” Wilson captioned her post at the time, which included a photo of Hanks wearing glasses as he sat beside a typewriter.

Hanks and Wilson share two children, sons Chet, 35, and Truman, 29, while Hanks is also father to son Colin, 47, and daughter Elizabeth, 43, both of whom he shares with his ex Samantha Lewes. (Hanks was married to the late Lewes from 1978 to 1987.)

In September 2022, Hanks and Wilson spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the joy of being grandparents now their children have their own little ones. “All you gotta do is love those little brats and they’re better than TV,” Hanks told the outlet at the time, before clarifying his granddaughters were “not little brats, they’re extraordinary young women.” (Colin Hanks is father to two daughters, Olivia, born in 2011, and Charlotte, born in 2013, while Chet Hanks is father to daughter Michaiah, born in 2016.)

Wilson added during the interview, “You got to get on the trampoline with them, you got to get in the pool with them, you got to get on the tennis court, you got to do all the sports. You’ve just got to hang out.”

Hanks also jokingly threw in that it helps to stay on the good side of grandchildren by making “their macaroni and cheese just perfectly.”

The couple also marked another family milestone in March, with Wilson celebrating 10 years of being cancer-free following an invasive lobular carcinoma diagnosis in 2015. During an Instagram video shared on March 31, Wilson told fans, “Just wanted to say today is a celebration for me. March 31 marks 10 years of being cancer-free. 10 years and I’m so deeply grateful. I’m so thankful to my doctors, to my friends, to my family that the gratitude is overwhelming.”

She continued, “Didn’t always feel this way, and you know that. Anybody who’s going through or survived knows that it’s an up and down like a hamster wheel. But then you get to this point. I don’t talk that much, but I think it’s important to celebrate good news.”
