Tom Cruise opened up about his interaction with the Prince and Princess of Wales at the London premiere of his new film, Digger.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, the 64-year-old Hollywood star praised the “charismatic” pair, who attended the event in support of the Film and TV Charity, which provides mental and financial help to workers in the industry. The Digger event was chosen as the official Royal Film Performance and helped to raise funds for the charity.
“They are amazing,” Tom said of the royal couple. “Very charismatic. I had such a good time,” he added.
Tom underwent a staggering physical transformation to play oil baron Digger Rockwell, who is trying to fix an impending environmental disaster that his company caused with nothing but a shovel. The actor donned grey hair, facial prosthetics and a padded bodysuit to embody the character, whom he described as “outrageous and unpredictable”.

Ahead of their arrival at Leicester Square, Tom shared his admiration for the royal couple. “I just love them,” he said. “They are lovely people, and I have great respect for them.”
© WireImageDuring the premiere, Tom commented “great jacket” as William walked towards him wearing a tuxedo with a suave, double-breasted, velvet jacket and bow tie.
As always, Kate pulled out all the stops with her outfit. The 44-year-old looked incredible in a purple Jenny Packham dress accessorised with Princess Diana’s earrings and the Queen Mother’s amethyst sautoir necklace.
© Getty ImagesInside the screening, the Mission Impossible star expressed his gratitude to the future King and Queen as the Digger cast took to the stage. “We want to thank the Royal Highnesses for supporting this event, and just to tell them that we love them and we really appreciate what they do for the arts, for this country and for the world,” Tom said.
Kate and William’s attendance at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere
This isn’t the first time Princess Kate and Prince William have supported one of Tom’s films. The couple attended the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in 2022.
William, in particular, is a huge fan of the action flick. While at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards earlier this year, the royal was asked what his favourite film was.
© Getty Images“I’ve got to be careful because I’m a little biased to a particular person,” William said. “But Top Gun 2, for instance, is one of the most incredible films I’ve watched in a long time.”
“Highest grossing, so serious about how he takes the action scenes. How it doesn’t win anything, ever? That’s what I care about,” the Prince continued. “It just doesn’t win anything. How could it not win anything? It’s one of the biggest grossing films probably in recent times, and it just needs a mention somewhere, that’s all I care about.”
© Getty ImagesWilliam went on to reveal that even Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are fans of the movie. “For me and watching with my children, they absolutely adore it,” the dad of three shared. “As much as they love the sort of arty ones… they like the stunts and he takes it so seriously and he cares about cinema.”
