Tom Cruise, 64, bares his abs on the cover of GQ

Tom Cruise is showing off more than his face on the cover of GQ Magazine this month.

The 64-year-old faces the camera in a pair of jeans and a black button-down shirt, with his top completely open to ensure his abs are on full display.

Staring straight into Mario Sorrenti’s lens, Cruise has one hand hooked on his belt, the other running through his hair.

This is Cruise’s sixth cover of American GQ Magazine, though it’s his first for the publication in just over 20 years.

“I’ve been busy,” he joked, when asked why he doesn’t sit down for long-form interviews very often.

Continuing, “There’s things that I want other artists to know, you know? When people see a movie, you want it to look easy … and understanding the joy that it’s ok if it hurts. That it’s hard. That it can be confusing, and you don’t know.”

Cruise has always taken on a casual, albeit slightly rugged, approach to character dressing — with the occasional tailored suit mixed in.

As such, GQ dressed Cruise wearing a mix of Levi’s jeans, vintage tees and a few wool blazers layered on top — and had the legendary actor walk down Hollywood Boulevard among a flock of tourists.

He is also, as it happens, leaning into his latest “Digger” character: a southern oil tycoon. The “Top Gun” star is totally unrecognizable in the film.

At a press event for the film, Cruise shared, “Whether it’s Les Grossman or ‘Interview With the Vampire,’ ‘Collateral’, or ‘Risky Business,’ I’m always asking, ‘How do I communicate this?’ The physicality, the makeup, that is stuff that you find as you are learning how to communicate.”

All that said, Cruise told GQ that he’s always looking forward, not back. “I look back to evaluate how I can do things better. Where I’m going, “What worked and what didn’t work?” I can look back at things in a joyful way. I’m looking at history,” though adding, “I’m not someone who lives in the past … I’m more looking out. For me, I’m more in present and future.”
