TODAY’s Sheinelle Jones calls out ‘awful’ family photos during time off amid late husband’s cancer battle

On a recent installment of TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, co-host Sheinelle Jones is looking back on a difficult period of her life.

While discussing the recent slew of AI-generated images that purported Michael B. Jordan was with singer RAYE at the MTV Video Music Awards, she discussed seeing AI-generated images of herself and her family while she was off the show.

In late 2024, Sheinelle took an extended leave of absence from the show. While no reason was given for her departure for several months, the show then confirmed in May 2025 that her husband Uche Ojeh had passed away from an aggressive glioblastoma.

In the video above, the mom-of-three, 48, noted that she was confronted with images of herself out with her husband, in which she’d spot little details that felt off.

At one point, a photo on Facebook even circulated of her with her kids sitting down for a supposed interview with Katie Couric, which was false, and she was advised not to comment on it, calling the photos “awful.”

Jenna Bush Hager called it out as well, saying to create content like that when somebody is “in pain” was a bad move, with Sheinelle also calling it “horrible.”
