Peter Alexander has been working at Today since 2018, and with NBC for 22 years, but on March 28, he told viewers he would be leaving Saturday Today.

The popular TV host announced the news live on air alongside his co-host Laura Jarrett, citing wanting to spend more time with his family – who are based in Washington D.C. – as his primary reason.

Peter has been commuting to NYC – where the Today studios are based – from his home for years, and told viewers he was looking to “challenge himself with something new”, as well as being there more for his young daughters, Ava, 12, and Emma, ten, who he shares with wife Alison Starling.

“I’ve been away from home more than 80 nights in the last seven months, more than 200 Friday nights away from my family in the last seven years,” he explained.

“So, in this limited window before my daughters lose interest in hanging out with me — it’s already happened quick — I’m eager to carve out a better balance between my personal and professional lives and to challenge myself with something new.”

“NBC is at my core, through and through. I love everybody here, I wish everyone continued success. I had a chance to exchange messages with our friend, Savannah, who I love so much as well and I’m thrilled that she’s going to come back here and we’ll continue to pray for her. I mean, we’re in the business of using words. I got no words to describe what this place has meant.” After the clip was shared online, Savannah replied: “The pro of all pros. And what a heart. We love you Pete.”
