Studio 1A has unveiled a subtle set redesign in tribute to Savannah Guthrieâs mother, Nancy, who has been missing for nearly three weeks. The public have been placing yellow flowers near Nancyâs home in Tucson, Arizona, and across the city to show their respects.
During the February 18 instalment of the TODAY Show, the hosts shared that they have now taken inspiration from the gesture into their own studio. âWe got a suggestion from one of our viewers, and weâre doing the same here. Weâve got yellow roses around Studio 1A and weâre all wearing ribbons as we send our love to Savannah and her family,â said Hoda Kotb.
The hosts then went on to share their hopes as the search for Nancy continues. âCases like this, they get solved every day,â said Craig Melvin. Theyâre not always solved in two or three weeks, they get solved all the time.â
âWeâre used to watching a TV show where you get it all in an hour,â said Carson Daly. I think we articulated it yesterday for the national collective. This is our missing mom and this is a nice symbol.â
âWe remain hopeful,â concluded Craig.
The 84-year-old was last seen near her home in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, January 31. The Pima County Sheriff Department suspects foul play, and revealed that she was likely taken from her home âagainst her will.â Authorities discovered blood and signs of forced entry at her residence, and itâs being treated as a crime scene.
Savannah shared another heartbreaking video on social media on February 15, as she urged anyone who knew anything to âdo the right thingâ.
âItâs been two weeks since our mom was taken. And I just wanted to come on and say that we still have hope. And we still believe,â the TODAY host tearfully said in the video.
âI wanted to say to whoever has her or knows where she is that itâs never too late. And youâre not lost or alone. And it is never too late to do the right thing. And we are here. And we believe. And we believe in the essential goodness of every human being,â she continued.âItâs never too late,â she concluded the post.
Savannah has been absent from the show since her mother Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her home in Arizona. âHoda is joining us while Savannah remains with her family in Arizona. We are grateful to have you here,â Craig said on February 9, seemingly implying that she would remain as co-anchor of the show for the time being.
