TLCâs new reality series highlights life in a four-way relationship.
In a first look at PolyFamily, two couples display their dynamic as a âclosed polyamorous quadâ raising a family together. While Sean and Taya are married, as are Tyler and Alysia, the women also date each othersâ husbands and live under the same roof.
âA closed quad is four people, us, weâre only dating within ourselves and married within ourselves,â Sean explains in the trailer, which was released on March 17. âWe donât have any outside partners.â
âLike everybody else, right?â Tyler quips.
Alysia then adds: âWe never set out to live our lives like this, but we realized we could love more than one person and make our own rules as to what we want our family to look like.â
The four share several children â including two Tyler and Alysia had before meeting Sean and Taya, and two more since becoming a quad.Â
âWe feel very fortunate to give the kids double the love,â Alysia says.
They also reveal that Taya is pregnant â but they donât know who the father is.
âSince the guys switch rooms every night, we donât know who the fathers of the younger boys are,â she shares before joking, âI can assure you, it is one of two people!â
But despite Tyler noting that âfinding out could cause a lot of hurtâ within the family, the preview teases the results of a DNA test.
Tension between the men appears to grow as the season progresses, with Sean labeling their relationship as purely circumstantial.
âWe live together, we have mutual partners and we parent together,â Sean tells the cameras. âBut if we werenât in this situation, we probably wouldnât be friends.â
He later confronts Tyler about their issues, but that seemingly makes things worse.
âThis has always been a point of contention â your kids and then us,â Sean says. Tyler responds, âDude, you donât need to parent me. I donât need that.â
âMaybe if I was parenting you this sâ wouldnât have happened,â Sean snaps back.
The animosity isnât just among them, though, as Alysia explains that âwhen it comes to Taya and Tyler, it almost looks like they are more in love than him and I.â
âI canât help but be jealous about that,â she admits before tearfully sharing her feelings with Sean. âI donât feel like weâre the same people we were in the beginning.â
âYeah, but do you want to work on it or not?â he asks her.
With everyone struggling to find stability within the group, Taya drops a bomb that could change everything.
âI have something to share,â she begins. âI feel like I have a connection with someone else.â
Shocked, Tyler grapples with the possibility of their family falling apart.
âThe quad we have now is the most important thing to me, and I donât wanna screw that up by not thinking things through,â he explains. âItâs complicated to bring someone else in. Weâre not closed anymore at that point. Weâre just not.â
âI donât know where we go from here,â Alisya declares as the trailer comes to a dramatic end.
