Tiger Woodsâ mugshot has been released after he was granted bail after being charged with driving under the influence following a dramatic car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday.
The 15-time Major winner was jailed for eight hours before being released on bond after driving at âhigh speedsâ in his Land Rover and colliding with a pick-up truck towing a trailer as he attempted to overtake.
âThis is a small two-lane road and there was no shoulder for this gentleman to get off but as he tried [to pull in] the Land Rover overtook, swerved to avoid a collision, and clipped the backend of the pressure cleaner apparatus [on the trailer], and [the car] rolled on the driverâs door,â said Martin County Sheriff, John Budensiek.
While Tiger was unhurt as he crawled out of the Land Rover on the passenger door, according to Sheriff Budensiek, he did appear âlethargicâ and â[exhibit] signs of impairment.â
On the scene, investigators asked him to complete several tests, including a breathalyzer for which he âblew triple zeros,â but âwhen it came time to ask for urine analysis, he refused.â Declining to take a urine test is a misdemeanor state violation.Â
Tiger was released in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Martin County Sheriffâs Office confirmed. He has also been charged with property damage, also a misdemeanor, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
âThe DUI investigators came to the scene and Mr Woods did exemplify signs of impairment,â Sheriff Budensiek said.Â
âThey did several tests on him. He did explain the injuries and surgeries that heâs had and we did take that into account, but they did some in-depth roadside tests.
âWhen it was determined, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Martin County jail. At the Martin County jail, and even on scene, we were really not suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case and that proved to be true.â
He added: âMr Woods did a breathalyser test with triple zeros, but when it came time for us to ask for a urinary analysis test, he refused and so he has been charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.â
This is the fourth car incident Tiger has been involved in.
In 2009, he ran over a fire hydrant and hit a tree early on the morning after Thanksgiving with his SUV. He was cited for careless driving and fined $164 by Florida police, but the crash became the impetus for revelations that he had been cheating on his wife with multiple women.
In 2017, Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of a car parked on the side of the road. He was arrested on a DUI charge and alleged he had suffered from an unexpected reaction to prescription medicine. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving and checked into a clinic to get help.
In February 2021, Tiger crashed his car after driving 80mph, nearly twice the speed limit, in Rancho Palos Verdes, outside of Los Angeles, and was left with severe leg injuries that led to numerous surgeries
Investigators determined the crash was an accident and ruled out impairment.Â
