Kristin Smith, the former partner of Tiger Woods, has spoken out in an emotional and carefully worded statement following renewed attention surrounding the golfer’s past DUI arrest, describing the situation as deeply “triggering”.
Taking to Instagram, Kristin shared a stark black background with white text, addressing both recent events and the resurfacing of her past.
“Regarding recent events and my past, I have moved forward and being dragged back into these moments, and untrue narratives is triggering,” she began.
Her message continued with a candid insight into the toll that ongoing scrutiny has taken on her mental health, particularly in the wake of unrelated traumatic experiences in recent years.
“Beyond that, after traumatic unrelated incidents over the last couple of years, I don’t handle being unexpectedly approached or confrontation well and it can be deeply unsettling for me,” she wrote.
Kristin went on to reveal the extent of her anxiety, explaining that the fear of being contacted, followed or watched has made the situation even more distressing, particularly when linked to events she says she has not been involved in “for a very long time”.
“Anxiety and fear of my family and me being contacted, watched, or followed, in hopes of provoking a reaction about something that has not involved me for a very long time simply does not get easier.”
While she did not directly name Tiger Woods in the post, the timing of her statement, amid renewed headlines referencing his past DUI arrest and their former relationship. has led many to connect the two.
Tiger made headlines after being involved in a dramatic crash on a residential road in Jupiter Island, Florida. The 50-year-old reportedly attempted to overtake a truck and trailer before clipping the vehicle, causing his SUV to overturn. He was able to exit the car and was later taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed Tiger passed a breathalyser test at the scene, but declined to provide a urine sample. Speaking to reporters, Sheriff John Budensiek said: “When it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused… he wanted no part of it.”
The incident marks the latest in a series of driving-related controversies for the golfing icon, who previously suffered serious injuries in a 2021 crash that required multiple surgeries, as well as a DUI arrest in 2017.
Kristin and Tiger were previously in a high-profile relationship in 2016, but have long since gone their separate ways when they broke up in 2017 after his first DUI arrest.
Tiger is currently in a relationship with Don Jnr Trump’s ex Vanessa Trump, who has yet to comment on the matter. HELLO! have contacted her for comment.
The sportsman was previously married to Elin Nordegren for six years before they divorced in 2010 amid a sea of controversy (not to mention his own recent troubles with his health and accidents).
At the time, the couple, who share daughter, Sam, 18, and son, Charlie, 17, made headlines for Tiger’s multiple extra-marital affairs.
Elin said it felt like her whole world had “fallen apart,” as she navigated the ugly demise of her marriage.
His numerous infidelities were brought to light in the months that followed and in 2010, Tiger completed a stint in rehab for sex addiction before the finalization of their divorce.
“I’ve been through hell,” Elin later told People. “It’s hard to think you have this life, and then all of a sudden, was it a lie? You’re struggling because it wasn’t real. But I survived. It was hard, but it didn’t kill me.”
