Chrissy Metz is ready to put her health first.
The This Is Us star, 45, has long been candid about her weight journey, which was even used as a plot line in the ABC drama, though she has also long been skeptical about GLP-1s, which approximately 10 million people (about 15%of American adults) have now tried, according to Gallup.
But after years of trying different approaches to weight loss, she has finally tried a GLP-1, and has zero regrets.
Speaking with People about her decision to get on the weight loss drug, Chrissy, now an ambassador for Ro, noted sheâs ânot getting any younger,â and explained: âIâm in perimenopause, and there were obesity issues within my family and with my father, and I felt like Iâve tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me.â
Maintaining itâs been a âgreatâ experience, she said: âIâve enjoyed the benefits that I didnât think would come, because I was very skeptical.â
âI was like, âIâm not taking this medication. I donât wanna do this. Itâs not gonna work for me.â You know, all the things,â she recalled. âBut when I realized food noise was really a thing, that consumed a lot of my head space, I was like, âOh.'â
âItâs so nice not to be obsessing about what Iâm going to have every minute, even as Iâm still consuming the meal,â she continued, detailing just some of the benefits of the medication. âI just vilified food for so long because I was taught that it was bad, and you shouldnât eat this or that.â
Chrissy, who is currently appearing on Broadwayâs & Juliet, added: âAnd itâs been helping me be more mobile and have less joint pain and inflammation, and run around onstage, and just do things that would have been much more difficult several pounds and inches ago.â
Chrissy also addressed the criticism she might face, teasing when it comes to her, âeverybody is judgy,â but maintaining it âdoesnât matter,â because people will judge her for not being on a GLP-1 just as they will for being on one.
âI always say, theyâre not in my life. Theyâre not in my doctorâs notes. Theyâre not in the hereditary issues my family has. My life is my life, and I have to do whatâs best for me, and that includes not listening to the comments and just talking to people who are positive and kind. I canât engage with something that doesnât make me feel good,â she emphasized.
âMy thinking was, how can I better myself and put myself first, which has always been the bane of my existence because Iâm a people pleaser,â she further shared. âBut I know that my blood work is already better, and Iâm headed in the right direction of getting ahead of things that needed getting ahead of.â
Chrissy lastly noted: âI know itâs not a magic wand, and I need to change other things, so Iâve been working with a trainer, and Iâm lifting and putting on muscle and and itâs really about how comfortable I am, and learning what Iâm capable of, so I really try not to have a number. I just want to feel strong and not have my morning ruined because I stepped on a scale and Iâm several pounds above what I think I should be.â
