Ritz is bringing the flavor to the cracker brand’s beloved, bite-sized snack.

In a press release provided to PEOPLE on Dec. 13, Ritz confirmed the launch of a new “savory, flavorful” variety of Ritz Bits — spicy queso.

The spicy queso cracker sandwiches will be available at some retailers starting in December.

“With Spicy Queso, we’re answering consumers’ demands for exciting, bold flavors and turning up the heat on the RITZ Bits you know and love,” Steven Saenen, Ritz’s vice president of marketing, says in a statement. “It’s a bold twist on your childhood favorite, with a kick in each mini bite.”

The launch of spicy queso marks the first new flavor of Ritz Bits in nearly a decade. It also is just the latest foray from Ritz into more bold flavor profiles — the brand launched a sweet habanero flavor of Ritz Toasted Chips earlier this year.

Spicy Queso bits are “a layered experience that combines rich, creamy cheese flavor with a bold, spicy kick,” the release says.

Interested in trying out the new cracker bites? The 3-oz. snack-sized bags will soon be available at convenience store locations. Larger boxes of spicy queso Bits won’t hit major food retailers, though, until Feb. 2025.

Lots of classic food brands have been trying out bolder versions of their traditional offerings. Back in March, Hidden Valley confirmed the launch of seven new flavors of their ranch dressing, including three spicier offerings: Nashville hot, creamy jalapeño, spicy hot honey.

And Lays is, once again, asking fans to submit new chip flavor suggestions as part of the Do Us a Flavor contest. The contest runs through February.
